CA: Natasha Richardson Critically Injured

This makes me so sad, I love her!! Natasha Richardson, married to Liam Neeson, was in a skiing accident leaving her critically injured. There are different reports stating that she just has swelling of the brain, and some saying she is brain dead and will not survive. No official statement from the family yet.

So sad!  Perez Hilton reported she had actually died earlier this evening   But then retracted it a bit later. 

Oh, I love Perez Hilton (guilty pleasure). That's actually where I saw it first.

Never believe Perez. He's only out for himself, the swine. Sorry, but I feel very strongly about that. 

The report I read said that she showed no signs of injury immediately, but started complaining of pains about an hour later. That's when she was taken to hospital. So I think the OTT reports are just silly exaggerations. At least, I hope so!

The latest I've seen (just been updated on the Virgin Media home page) is that she has left the hospital and is on a plane back to the US... but no further details as to her current condition.

Yeah, I had read that she fell, but it wasn't anything apparently traumatic, like she didn't hit a tree or anything, and that she only started to feel bad an hour or so afterwards. It might have been a slow bleed or something caused by the fall, maybe that's why it took a little while to manifest itself. It's sad though, I feel for her family

I agree about Perez. I take everything he says with a boulder of salt.

That first link is from the New York Post. TMZ and MSN also say that she is being flown to a hospital in NY so her mother and other son can see her, and that the family will issue a statement tomorrow. Still - so sad. Hope she's okay.

I'm glad that it seems to be (hopefully) not as bad as originally thought.  While I hate that it's usually the case*, TMZ is usually a pretty good indicator of what's really going on.



*They're a bit too muck rake-y for me.

You're right about TMZ. I kind of don't mind it, though.

I hope your NY Post story is wrong, jw66! Neither the BBC nor the Guardian says that she's brain dead, and the Times oddly quotes TMZ as a source and says she's only suffering from swelling of the brain.

There's to be a statement later today.

This is very sad.  Normally, I oculdn't care less about celebrity misfortunes but she is like theatrical royalty! I hope she pulls through.

The whole thing is very odd.  I wonder if she had some sort of pre-exsisting, but unknown, issue that was worsened by the accident.
