Also, I've been dying to make some smoothies lately, but can't seem to find straws anywhere!  ??? (I like mine thick like a shake, so I needs a straw.)

Oh yeah, I've had trouble finding straws and paper cups too.  Found the straws in Sainsbury's but in a totally unexpected aisle.  Nothing like Dixie cups though you can can plastic thingies.  I think I've also seen straws in weird places like maybe W.H. Smith (?)

They have straws at Tesco, but they are in with the party supplies, like cards and wrapping paper.   ::)

Aha! I shall try to hunt some down next time we go to the big Tesco then....  :) I'm fairly sure there aren't any in the whole of this village. Doesn't anyone use straws here?  :o

Can you get straws when you go to the pub?  Our local has quite a variety, and I've seen several girls ask for them with a pint.  Soooo, if it were me- I'd just ask for them each time I had a drink and squirrel them away in my purse...  ;)

I've only seen that on Emmerdale...Chas is always drinking her beer from a straw!

On another note...I'm fortunate enough to live near River Cottage, so lately I've been getting a bag of salad that is absolutely fantastic!  I thinks its probably weeds and flowers, but a nice combination, so much better than just plain lettuce.

My best friend (American) drinks Guinness through a straw so she doesn't get a beer moustache. She did it in London, but was too afraid to do it in this village... lol.
But, they do usually give you straw here with Wicked and other alcopops, I believe.

Cafes would also have straws available.  My mother knew a lady who drank her coffee through a straw at the local coffee shop. :o

When I asked a girl why, her response was classic- "Gets you pissed quicker."  ;)

Why all the worry about being able to get hold of straws?  ::) Practically every supermarket sells them, so they're not hard to find - we've been buying boxes of about 200 straws from Tesco for over 20 years! The big boxes are about £1.80 or if you're feeling cheap you can buy 50 Tesco Value straws for 16p!
