part of the reason I moved back was the food - I couldn't find any decent cheddar in the US (at least not decent compared to the cheddar I grew up with) without paying a fortune for imported cheddar, and I couldn't bear the thought of not being able to eat my favourite cheeses for another 5 years :P!

Well, Ksand, next time you go back, look for Cabot brand Vermont cheddar.  It may not be quite as good, but it is probably the closest you can get. I got hooked on it when I was in school in New England, but could easily find it in CA as well.

Christmas Cake. I must be the only bizzare person who actually loves Christmas Cake - with dried fruit and marizipan and the sugar paste icing- yum!!!  But I like it in smalled doses, not big slices- so I like the bite size ones from M&S

I never understood people in the US moaning about fruit cake -- but I think what passes for fruit cake here isn't anything like good ol' Christmas Cake! I had a wonderful recipe made with mushed down dates (instead of sugar) and then I chopped up tons of Brazil nuts and threw those in along with all the dried fruit. Lashings of brandy of course. And the marzipan ... Oh, I want some right now  ;)

Mmmm that sounds like heaven!!! :)  :) :)

I have my dad's fruit cake recipe and I think I may try and make it here this year.  People are always amazed at how good it tastes.  It has dried fruit (I use a combination of dates/apricots/pineapple), marashino cherries, pecans and rum  ;D , and then after its baked, cover it with a maple syrup glaze

I gave all my staff and friends one each year, saying it was a fruit cake and everyone kind of wrinkled up their noses- well wouldn't you know it- everyone came back from the holiday break, begging me for the recipe!!  :)

That sounds like what I just tried recently and loved. I thought I hated Christmas cake, but as it turns out, I just don't like the marzipan or the icing. But this cake I ate recently was very light and had cherries in it and lots of bourbon, and it wasn't overly sweet. It was seriously one of the best cakes I'd ever tasted, I have to get the recipe (some guy at work brought in his wife's cake.)

Lately I'm really into scrambled eggs and wholemeal rolls. I'm eating that just about every morning for breakfast!

I don't like Christmas cake or pudding because I don't like raisins and sultanas.  If I could get a Christmas cake with different kinds of dried fruit, I think I'd really like it.  Phatbeetle, might you share your recipe?

Please do! Me no likey traditional Christmas pudding.

A good wedge salad with tomatoes and bleu cheese dressing is my first 2011 craving. Assuming I refrain from too much dressing it's a good addiction!

A geniunely wonderful cheeseburger. My husband says he winced last time I ordered a cheeseburger in a restaurant because I've had nothing but disappointments so far. This last one was red (not pink) in the center.) I don't even know where to look for one and I'm positive there's somewhere that serves a great cheeseburger, but I'm getting tired of trying and being disappointed, especially since we don't eat out often.

I feel the same way Dh always cringes if I order a cheeseburger when we go out as well I have yet to find anyplace that serves a really good cheeseburger. ::)  :P so when we do got out if its somewhere we have been before I just stick with what I know I like I'm not so adventurous anymore at restaurants it gets to expensive an I leave hungry. ::)  :P

German choc cake with coconut icing I nearly ate my whole B/day Dh doesn't like coconut. so if I don't want to waste I have to finish it myself well its a tough job but someone has to do it lol. ;)  :)
