Celebrations of Spring!
« on: March 20, 2009, 12:03:11 PM »
Some say today (March 20) is the first day of spring - I always thought it was March 21, but no matter - either day will do - it's SPRING!  8)  (I'm sure someone will turn up to give us all a long & involved explanation as to what's what & set us all straight about things.)

It's still a few weeks away until a nature show that DH and I always enjoy - Springwatch on the BBC.  :)

What are you doing to celebrate spring?!  Out with winter - in with warmer weather!!!  ;D

Yesterday, I bought a dress.  Today, I went ALL the way and actually shaved the winter growth of hair off my legs!!!  DH will be so happy!  :D  It's amazing how long that hair gets when you don't shave it all winter long!  :o  (good thing I'm blonde - lol!) [smiley=curtain.gif]

Oh and we have daffs blooming & tulips coming up in the garden!  [smiley=daisy.gif]

the use of March 21 as the first day of spring is a convention, but the actual scientific vernal equinox this year is today, March 20.  Either way, it's spring!  Yay.

We're going to a party tomorrow night hosted by some friends- everyone has to come with some sort of flower on their person. :)

Yes, this year the vernal equinox falls on the 20th at 11:44 am London time!  Some years it falls on the 21st.

The daffodils and narcissus(es?) are all going crazy here is Horsforth!  I haven't done anything to officially celebrate yet, but since tomorrow is my birthday I can combine it with that!  Hubby has a surprise planned and the sun should be shining--yay!

I thought it was the 21st too, but Andee how could we have ever doubted you?  :-*

I've been contemplating a "no screen week" in honor of the spring weather lately, but my kids aren't so keen on the idea.

ETA:  I like Springhaze's flower-wearing idea too.

While the snow here has (finally!) melted, we're still in the remnants of winter.  However, there have been some little green things popping up in my neighbor's yard, so I am hopeful that Spring will spring soon!

I dont 'celebrate' spring, as it means I'll soon have to stop wearing boots every day.   :\\\'(
But it's been nice coming out with just a cardi instead of a coat.

I dressed in my comfy old Nebraska sweatshirt and SHORTS today.   :D   Yes, it is a bit chilly for that but what the heck.

I'm not doing anything more to our garden as we're moving in a week, but I've got all the windows open and it's absolutely fantastic getting some air in the house without freezing!! I happened to notice a neighbour sitting outside in his (overlooked!) garden reading the paper - bit too cold to be sitting in the garden for me but nice to see people outside!!

A local Italian ice place gives out free Italian ice (full size!) every year on the first day of Spring! It was packed with all the high schoolers after school, but what a fun way to start the weekend AND Spring! :) I wore a skirt on Tuesday (it was 75*!!) Windows have been opened around the house, too. I love fresh air!!!!!

The daffodils and narcissus(es?) are all going crazy here is Horsforth!

If you ever go down Spen Lane which turns into Morris Lane (Kirkstall), there is a patch right before the park near the little roundabout that is chockablock full of daffodils. Pass it everyday on my bus. The yellow cheers me right up.

And today I saw tulips at St Stephens which was nice.

Our cherry trees have begun to blossom too, which is my favorite time of year because when the blooms fall, it looks like we have pinky snow on the ground.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

We have daffodils and lillies of the valley coming up (planted by previous tenants) and we're planting vegetables and sweetpeas.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
