Smoker Supplies and Availability
« on: March 24, 2009, 03:10:20 AM »
Our permanent arrival in the UK is scheduled for November.  Just curious if anyone has purchased a large capacity electric smoker in the UK?  I live in the Pacific Northwest and can't live without mine.  I smoke everything, wild salmon (Chinook, Sockeye and Coho or silver), steelhead, turkey, fresh albacore, chicken, baby back ribs, duck, you name it.  My favorite wood for wild salmon is hands down - alder, nothing else comes close.  There's no way I can bring my smoker over with me, I don't think it would work for very long on a voltage converter.  Any input on availability of large capacity electric smokers and wood chips would be appreciated.  Since I got Mrs. mapjunkie hooked on my smoked salmon, I'm gonna have to give it a go in the UK.

There is a fish smoker (portable) available on Amazon.co.uk for 49 pounds.  Type 'fish smoker' into the search box or you'll get a bunch of nicotine patches.  Don't know if it meets your requirements.  The picture shows fish and it appears that they are being smoked.  ;)

We have a charcoal smoker that we ordered from this website..http://www.thebbq.co.uk/ I called them first and they were very helpful. We also wanted larger bits of wood then they had so I ordered them online from a place that also does tree trimming. They had a large selection and fast delivery. I think it was this company but I can't remember for sure....http://www.arborworksltd.co.uk/smoking%20wood%20fuel.html

We couldn't find lots of selection on smokers, but if you google smoker wood, there are lots of suppliers for different woods.

Will have to source me a new one out this year as well.

I think I only paid about 49.00 for it as it was being clearenced.

But I'm a bit more interested in the other type of smoking these days, so this is a good thread!  :)

Yes, but then I was wondering why it was in the food section, so I was looking forward to reading a thread about brownies and crisps and munchies!   ;D

Smoked fish, however, is a nice topic as well.

Maybe I'll just bring mine over...If the voltage converter fries its' innards, then I'll worry about getting a new one  ;D

Thanks for the replies!

I think the hardest part will be finding all of the wood you're used to. I know my friends were able to find planks at Costco.

This is one of the best smokers around, you can't beat it.  It is just a tad spendy.

Just buy the wood disks in the flavor you like and bring them with you to the UK.

I think you should just go Old School and build a giant, backwoods smokehouse in your yard.  If anyone complains, tell them that you're American and it's your culture.  ;)

You betcha...There will be no question I'm American when the neighbors see my rusted out, doorless, '76 Ford pick-em up truck setin' on cinder blocks in the front "garden."  ;)

That Bradley is exactly what I'm looking for....thanks again to all.
