Foods you don't like
« on: March 25, 2009, 12:47:05 AM »
I was just on the phone with my friend, who was cooking dinner and we were discussing foods we don't like that everyone else seems to like. She was cooking tuna steaks, which I can't stand. In fact, I really don't like fish at all other than fried (think fish & chips) but I really love shellfish.

Other foods I don't like that other people seem to like:

1) Venison...tastes like blood to me no matter how I've ever had it. In fact most wild game is the same for me.

2) White chocolate. I just don't like it. I love chocolate...milk and dark. But not white.

3) Mint in anything other than chocolate. I can't stand it in savoury foods. I feel like I'm eating toothpaste.

It's funny too how when you say you don't like something, people always say "You just haven't had it cooked right" or something along those lines. And I bet I've been guilty of saying the same thing to someone who doesn't like stuff I like. :P

So what are some of the things you don't like or hate that most other people seem to like?

I agree with you on the white chocolate! It's just sugar really. No chocolate involved!! (Not a huge sweets person anyway).

But- my list would be:

1. Peas. Like English peas. Cannot.stomach.them.at.all! Blech. I've tried all kinds and I just can't. ONLY time they will slip by is if there are a few in a veggie soup or something.

2. Mint chocolate chip ice cream (mint/chocolate anything really)- Don't get it. Just wrong!

3. Sweet pickles in any form. Again- yuck! My family ALL love these. Give me dill pickles all day long, though.

I loathe everything about sliced white bread (eg Wonderbread), from its squishy texture to its total lack of flavour to its nutritional emptiness.  I also don't care for :

shrimp/prawns

soft-cooked eggs

celery

bacon

pork sausages

canned pasta

All things DH loves, except the celery  ::)

And I agree about the white chocolate!

2) White chocolate. I just don't like it. I love chocolate...milk and dark. But not white.

Me, too!  I find it utterly disgusting.

While I love crab, I cannot deal with any other kind of shellfish.  Something about the texture/mouthfeel, I think.

Peas.  I hate peas.  HATE. THEM.  I can force myself to eat them if they are mixed into something (like a casserole or soup), but if they are served on their own I want to run screaming.

But you can bounce Wonder Bread!  If you squish it into a ball, it'll bounce!!  How can you not like food that bounces? ;D

I can live with white 'chocolate' but it's realy gotta be Green and Blacks where you can actually see the flecks of vanilla in it.

I can't stand raw onion.

Anything coffee.

I'm not wild about cooked carrots. I'll eat them, but I'd really rather not.

White chicken meat unless it is very, very moist. I loathe things like grilled chicken breast sandwiches because they end up so dry.

Branston pickle and HP sauce.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Candy and anything really sweet like frosting.  I guess that is a distaste that has helped me out in life.

In my case, my love of cheese and bread and pasta makes up for it, I think. :(

I agree about peas.  I hate them in any form and will go to extensive measures to remove them from things.  If I cant remove them, I wont eat it.  Gross!

Also, I really really cant stomach baklava.  I've tried to like it just because I like to say "baklava", but ew!

Ok Carey. I was all with you when you were talking about peas. But baklava?! Well, I guess this means I can have your portion then! lol

Yes!  Eat ALL the gross baklava.  I'll have Pushkin's frosting for dessert instead :)

My wife and kids have no problem eating frosting right out of the can.  I'm shivering just thinking about it.

Here is the grossest thing ever seen at a dinner table...

My father would have a glass of milk but still be thirsty.  As milk was considered something of a limited commodity in my house growing up, he would refill his glass with water.  The glass would be cloudy milk-water and he would drink it.  I couldn't even be in the same room when he did that.  Yeeecccchhhhh!   :P

Ewww!!  That has just turned me off my glass of water I was drinking.

I need to think happy thoughts about frosting now! :)

I love white chocolate!! More for me then, I see!  ;D

But I can't stand:

Red meat. Ugh. There's blood and veins and stuff in it! UGH!!! It looks all fleshy 'n' sh*t! UGH! UGH! UGH!

Dill pickles. Vile things.

Anything fake - cakes or brownies from a mix, Smash, white bread, etc. In most cases, if it's not homemade, I probably won't like it.

And that's it.
