Does anyone know anything about the little 3-wheelers? Do they still allow people (usually handicapped) to drive those around anymore?
DH has managed never to pass his driving test but his health problems are not going to improve so I'm wondering if they still had those things. I don't think you needed a full license to drive them and of course they were not allowed on the motorway.   (Just the job for him so he could scoot over to the new Waitrose in Meanwood and not have to lug all the stuff home  ;D)

Not sure exactly what you mean, BD, but I have seen little mobility scooters scooting down the roads here (not the motorway).  It kind of freaked me and a group of friends out awhile back, because we were sitting on a double decker bus, on top at the front and it looked like the bus was going to run over this little old person puttering along on the mobility scooter.  I doubt it was that close really - just how it looked from where we were sitting.  Still we were surprised they (the scooters) are allowed on these busy streets, but looks like they are!  (Not meaning surprised as in they shouldn't be allowed, but just concerned on the count of safety!)

A few of us are excited about the Meanwood Waitrose & it's really close to MLG & her hubs!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  (Waitrose is kinda overpriced though, IMO.)

But you know he could get it delivered from Waitrose via the Ocado website, don't you?

Hah! Surely you don't think he would go on line for anything like that, do you?!  ::)  ??? Agree Waitrose is pricey but makes a change from the Sainsbury's (ex-Safeways) in Headingley which largely caters for students.

By mobility scooters do you mean those sort of motorized wheel chairs? These were proper little enclosed cars which would hold one person plus groceries or whatever or maybe two people in a pinch. They had one wheel in front and two in back and disabled people were allowed to drive around public streets but not the motorway. So far as I know they were just called "Three-wheelers"

Are you thinking of the Reliant Robin?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reliant_Robin  You do still see them around occasionally, but that is where my knowledge of them ends; I won't drive anything with less than 4 wheels!

Yeah, that must be it. Thanks MsB. But no longer manufactured? Wonder if they were bought out by another company?

Do you mean the Elswick Envoy disabled car? It has four wheels, though.

What I saw wasn't enclosed, so yeah - it was more like a motorised wheelchair, just going down the road in the bicycle lane.  I was surprised that a person could drive one in the road (in busy traffic).

DH isn't anywhere ready for the wheelchair (thank goodness) -- just needs to get things from point A to point B and never got his driving license. That is amazing that people go on the actual road in those things. D'you think it's strictly legal? As if there aren't enough distractions on the road, what with bicycles and all that.

No idea!  Like I said we were sitting on the top, at the front, of a double decker bus...having had a few drinks in town beforehand...and it was like Whoa!  Looks like the bus is going to run over that person on the scooter!  :o

Just finished my practical driving exam, and so excited to say I passed with only 2 minor faults!

I got the turn in the road, and reverse parking as my two maneuvers. The examiner was really nice, and had just gotten back from Texas, so we had a nice chat about the states.

My faults were leaving the handbrake on after moving away from a curve to do a maneuver (I thought I had failed when he told me it was still on), and stalling the car during my turn in the road.

I read lots of success stories on another thread about people passing the first time around, and found it helped calm my nerve and gave me a bit of confidence. So thanks to all those who posted about their experiences.

Going to go have a nice relaxing cup of tea to celebrate! :)

Congratulations!!
I wonder if other people would be kind enough to post what their faults were?  Somehow I feel like it would help to see what the examiners are picking up on.
