Official 2008 exchange rate?
« on: April 05, 2009, 01:06:32 AM »
Hey everyone,

Just want to start getting my taxes in order since U.S. citizens abroad are still required to file tax returns.  Anyone know what the official GBP to USD exchange rate for 2008 is?  And do I need to provide the IRS with a copy of my P46 or whatever it's called as proof?

I also get a 2 month extension automatically right?  So instead of April 15th, it's June 15th, right?

Thanks.

Here is a link.

See the summary prior to the table.

The 2008 exchange rate is U.S. $1.855 = £1.00

Regarding the extention:

If you reside overseas, there is an automatic extension of time to file your return until June 16, 2008. You do not have to file any documents to receive this extension. Simply write across the top of your return: TAXPAYER RESIDENT ABROAD. Please note however, that if tax is due but not paid by April 15, 2008, interest and penalties will be applied until the tax is paid.
