I have not seen the book yet, my mother is bringing it next month when we have our England wedding reception.  She is eager for us to make some grandkids for her and my dad!!!

Stress!!!!  Well that explains a lot.  Looking for a job and worring about getting pregnant is causing huge stress for me!!!

I know a lot of over 40 year olds who have given birth!  Also, I hear if you have had children already that it's a lot easier at 40!!!!  I think you will be fine!!!!

I think once you read the book and start temping and following other fertility signs you'll feel a bit more in control. Try not to get too overwhelmed by the "how to" parts of the book...although it is much easier to figure out HOW to look for signs that lead to pregnancy than on trying to follow the HOW NOT to get pregnant...so you should be ok!

I know from friends who tried for several months to conceive that the stress can cause a vicious cycle...not getting pregnant one month leads to stress, that can lead to timing the "baby making" at the wrong time of the month (that is why temping is so helpful) which leads to not conceiving again etc...so that is why all of them (and books) point out that the best way to make a baby is the timing and the enjoying of the celebration that leads to its creation in the first place! (That's not too hard for newly weds! Especially newlyweds that have endured LDR prior to the wedding!)

If you have any questions when you get the book, give me a holler. I used to unofficially teach natural family planning for 8 years when I was a La Leche League leader and lactation consultant.

Now I need to get the twins into bed!

Also, thanks for the encouraging words about conceiving in my 40's. It does have me a bit worried! Maybe we'll both be part of the "waiting to give birth" club here on this forum sometime this year! (definitely you for sure!)

Thank you!!!!  I may be PMing you at times.  Hope the twins go to bed without trouble.  I think it may be time for me too.

I've been checking out the whole Pregnancy and Parenting Issues threads lately and well, it's just a lovely place to be!

I'm also 39 and while we were lucky enough to get pregnant on our honeymoon last April, we heartbreakingly lost the baby in my 12th week.  :\\\'(

But I remain hopeful!!

Since that was a complete surprise and I had worried about my ahem, advancing age, I figure we can give it another shot! Unfortunately, hubby and I have been 6000 miles apart for the last 6 months due to our pending visa (long story, but you can check out all my sisters-in-visa-misery over at the Repat thread...hehe!)...which makes trying a LITTLE difficult!

But when we're finally together...boy will the "trying" be fun!

Much love and baby dust to all the ladies on here!

Hey all, just woke up this morning to see this thread got very busy as I snoozed away!! Stacey... I have Weschler's book now and it really is an eye opener. The biggest myth it shoots down is that many many many women do not ovulate on Day 14 of their cycle. Once you get that sorted, it all starts to fall into place. And Brooke, you might take a look at the book, too. Miscarriages ({{{{hugs}}}}) are terrible and many of them are completely unavoidable but some are a result of hormonal imbalances in the mother.

When SAF recommended this book, I was thrilled because it was the only one that addressed some symptoms I have that I thought might cause problems down the road. Now with this temp taking and charting, I can see if there's a problem before trying to get pregnant. If you'd like details, just PM me. It's a bit TMI for now!!

And Stacey, just as an FYI, if you are in the UK but have the US version of the book check first thing to see if there are both Farenheit and Celsius charts in the back. I could only find a C digital thermometer at Tesco but since I have the UK edition, it had C charts, so wasn't a problem. If your mom is bringing the book from the US, maybe she can bring a F digital thermometer, too!
Hugs to all!

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Hi there.  Thanks!!!  Question, can it be any kind of thermometer?  I do have one from the US, but it's one I use to see if I am sick and digital.  I can ask my mom for anything baby related at this point, she will bring it!

My friend in the US who recommended the book to me a few weeks ago has a thyroid problem, so she says this book is a lifesaver for her and anyone who might have any kind of problems.

Weschler recommends a digital thermometer that reads at xx.x (so 98.6). If your's does xx.xx (98.65), she doesn't like it for some reason. Prob too much worry about rounding up or down I expect.

Use the ovulation kits available on the market, that's how I got pregnant the second month I used them. I'm expecting my baby girl in 4wks!! I found out I was pregnant on my 35th birthday. I had used the temperature method, the 14 day rule and checking the discharge method to no avail. I think the brand I used was clearblue and I bought them in the US. They are however available here in the UK not sure what brand name though.

Good Luck!!!
Joanne

I have found this site invaluable for keeping track of temps and fertility signs: www.fertilityfriend.com

They have trying to conceive support groups for different situations etc.

Good luck to everyone! (Hang in there bruinbrooke...hope you're both on the same side of the sheets soon! Do you know if your visa situation will be resolved soon?)
