I don't understand why they won't give permission for you to live there and are insisting on adding you to the lease, this is the problem.

Vicky

The only reason they will give us is "This is how we have to do it" end of story. No regard for the seriousness and urgency of the matter.

I know what I would do if i were your husband - just sit in their office until they sort this out.  Or move.

Does anyone know why it could be taking so damn long? I was nuts when I told him that in America we can apply for an apartment, sign the lease and move in within a matter of days.

It's not the same system as in the US.  Estate agents, landlords, and so on are accountable to the Financial Services Authority for variously prescribed aspects of their business.  In the US, this would be equivalent to putting the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in charge of all the landlords.

So the systems are different, and attempts at compartive analysis between the two, or attempts to impute that one system is superior, will only lead to frustration.

He's my Fiancee and I don't know if he can. He has a business to run and without it we'd both be scwed. Either way I'm fairly certain a move is going to happen no matter what.

I also just sent the lease without my name on it.  But the guy seemed very confused by it, I think we were very lucky to get away with it.

It is worth a shot if you are going to lose all that money.

I'm sorry, Eliza! I can't believe you still don't have an answer from the landlord/letting agent. Beyond frustrating!

I hope either get what you need soon (like real soon!) or you can work around it somehow.

Hang in there. (hard, I know!)

That's a shame they're being so stubborn about it, even just a letter saying you have permission to live there  :-\\\\ My fiance has a copy of his rental agreement, and got a letter from the housing association giving me permission as his wife to live there (my name isn't anywhere near the rental agreement, but the letter is very specific about the 'wife' bit); I think you'd be okay as long as they gave you that kind of letter, and a copy of the agreement :(

Does he have parents or relatives who own their own home?
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Thanks Amy :(
Because of the holiday even if they give permission tomorrow, it's too late. I have to reapply, repay and redo my bios. I'm devistated.

When did you go in for biometrics? I thought you went in on April 3rd. If that's right, then you would have another week to get everything in. Or did I misread before and you went in before me? If tomorrow is the deadline, I'm devastated for you. (and if that's the case, shouldn't you get an extension for the their holiday observance?)

If it were just because of this that they would try to kick him out of the property, wouldn't they have to have a valid reason?

I can't see why requesting a document that was previously promised as grounds to evict.

Just my own thoughts anyway.

Well Gareth went into the post office today to send me everything he had so far and they said because of the holiday the fastest they can get the packet to me would be this thursday. My bios expire a week from tomorrow. :(

Is there a way of getting an extension? I didn't think that was possible. I thought once your bios expire you're SOL.

I'll be thinking about you this Easter weekend, and I know this may sound easy for me to say, but hang in there. You two have gotten this far, these are things that can still be fixed, it's just a hard time to do it at the moment because of the holidays. But, if there's anything I've learned from here, it's that most things that seem messy can get sorted :) *hugs*
