It's a nice thought, but I can't go into public for 6-9 months after I get out of hospital because I won't have any immune system. So I literally wouldn't be able to go inside the registry office, or any other public place licensed for marriages (or public transport, or pubs, or cinemas, or shops, etc etc).
And phatbeetle - even if they don't let us move the date with that original deposit, I still don't wish them ill will. It's at a museum and we still want to get married there eventually, so it won't do us any good to burn our bridges.
Sorry to hear that, squirrellypoo. Do you think an officiant could come to your home (or hospital, wherever you are) and perform a ceremony for just the two of you if they sterilize their hands and everything first? Not trying to be a pain, just trying to think of ways around this, but I suppose you have thought of all of these things already.
Sorry you will be stuck inside for so long. Hopefully you will get some good books and movies to keep you entertained while you wait it out.
Good luck getting your deposit back. Hopefully if you explain things they will show some compassion and understanding. That is an awful lot of money to lose. Maybe you could take a doc's note with you just for proof that you aren't making it up just to get your money back (though that would be a very elaborate story to create just to cover up a break-up or a change of plans.)
