Awwww, why not take your vows that day, then have the ceremony the following year on the same day for your one year anniversary? Then it will still be your day!  :)

I like that idea...

It's a nice thought, but I can't go into public for 6-9 months after I get out of hospital because I won't have any immune system. So I literally wouldn't be able to go inside the registry office, or any other public place licensed for marriages (or public transport, or pubs, or cinemas, or shops, etc etc).

And phatbeetle - even if they don't let us move the date with that original deposit, I still don't wish them ill will. It's at a museum and we still want to get married there eventually, so it won't do us any good to burn our bridges.  :-\\\\
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

Sorry to hear that, squirrellypoo. Do you think an officiant could come to your home (or hospital, wherever you are) and perform a ceremony for just the two of you if they sterilize their hands and everything first? Not trying to be a pain, just trying to think of ways around this, but I suppose you have thought of all of these things already.  :( Sorry you will be stuck inside for so long. Hopefully you will get some good books and movies to keep you entertained while you wait it out.

Good luck getting your deposit back. Hopefully if you explain things they will show some compassion and understanding. That is an awful lot of money to lose. Maybe you could take a doc's note with you just for proof that you aren't making it up just to get your money back (though that would be a very elaborate story to create just to cover up a break-up or a change of plans.)  :-\\\\

Squirrellypoo, you could always say your vows to each other on the day.  It might not be official, but it would still be real, and still your day.  I think it'll be your day anyway, whether you get married then or not  [smiley=love.gif]

I agree with this. A candlight dinner, some music you both love, and saying your vows to each other could be much more intimate and special anyway. (Though I do love museum weddings, and I am sure your wedding will be beautiful, no matter when it is!) Keep your chin up about it, you could still make that day special for both of you, no matter what. And moping around on that day thinking about what you had planned would make you depressed, whereas if you consider some other possibilities now, it will still give you something to look forward to.  :)

Good on you, Laura.   :D

So, did he get you an engagement ring then?  ;D

I'm finally getting one, 7 years later.  Heehee.  But we eloped and just had our wedding rings.

Nope, no ring.  Fine with me!  I'm very allergic to gold and I dislike diamonds, so we decided that we'd rather save the money and put it towards a better party for the wedding.

That's great about your engagement ring.  :) :)

My dad couldn't afford one when my parents got married, so I think on their 15th anniversary he finally got one for my mom.  It was sweet.

HIJACK:  Devin, that cat is soooo cute!  She's got a face you just want to squeeze and go, 'Ooooo, mooshy, mooshy, you are sooo cute, you little triangle head!'  ;D
