Weird Weather Differences...
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:38:32 PM »
...from one part of the UK to another.  What's up with that?

I'm hearing about some unusual heat wave down south yesterday?  And yet, it was freakin' FREEZING up here yesterday - like winter all over again.  What the heck?!

VERY weird. They've been predicting crap weather here in the Southeast for two weeks, and it's been heart-stoppingly lovely every day. A little rain overnight, but then sun and high puffy clouds and temps in the mid to upper fifties. Day after day. In fact -- just between you and me -- I could use a break from going out. The house is a mess.

And then night before last, we listened to a mysterious rumbling for hours before it ran up to us: it was a thunderstorm. Lightning and everything. Apparently blew over from France., from the sound of it. But it wasn't in anybody's forecast. Or, for that matter, did any local weather site mention it in current conditions.

Sheesh. You'd think those guys would at least look out a window from time to time.

It's been kind of strange weather here in Bristol the last few days.

Easter weekend was gorgeous sunshine and we had an outdoor BBQ on Sunday evening, then on Monday the sunshine continued and one of my friends came into work on Tuesday all sunburned!

The last three days have been cloudy and we had a short storm yesterday afternoon but when walked down to the supermarket last night (about 6pm) it was too warm to wear a coat. I left the house in a thin T-shirt top, cardigan and thin jacket and got so warm walking back from Sainsbury's that I took both the jacket and the cardigan off and was just in the T-shirt and jeans! I went out again later on and it was still warm enough at 10.30pm not to be wearing a coat  ::).

Today it's been complete heavy, dark cloud cover with rain and colder temps though :(.

I left my house in North London at 7am this morning.  It was overcast and a bit chilly, but okay, it was early morning.  I got the train to Stoke, arriving in lovely warm sunshine at 9.30.  Spent an hour there before getting the train back...arriving in London at about 12.30 to torrential rain.

Maybe it *is* nicer Up North after all!

It was hot today in Bristol from about 2-4p.  Between the sun and humidity (and the activity of my job) I was miserable.  I have tan lines and my nose is burnt (from more than just today).  The walk home at 5:30 was cool and more pleasant.

Tuesday was very calm and overcast (no rain) until 5pm when the sun broke through.  The joke at work was that the weather was cancelled for the day.

Wednesday it was cloudy and rainy until about 4pm, when the sun came out and thunder boomed in the distance.  I reckon to make up for for Tuesday, we had everything all at once.

In the Cumberland Basin, it was sunny and hot!  We saw the clouds over Clifton and points north - and were hoping it would come our way.

I think the Gulf Stream must be sweeping it your way because it has been nothing short of mental here in VA.... heat and sun one day and snow the next then torrential rain cold and now forecasted in the 70s F for the weekend....

Tim told me he lit a fire last night - I don't think we had a fire at all in my last three weeks there!

I've gotten reports from my fiance in Northampton that it's been pretty decently warm, around the low 60s or so, I'm jealous. The past few days here have hovered around the high 30s-low 40s :(

I have to agree with the general consensus on here that the weather is weird. Hot, cold.
Yesterday I was out driving and it was sunny on one side of the road and snowing on the other side. How weird is that?

Welcome to a British Spring. Autumn can be weird too.

Um, Jim is in the US - somewhere near Las Vegas, I believe, so I doubt what he is experiencing is a British Spring (especially not with a weekend forecast of 87 degrees, as he mentions above)  ::).
