god I feel like I'm getting ganged up on here. All I did was try to tell what I go through ever day and that being able to take advantage of a great BBQ must be nice.

I came here thinking that maybe I might be able to share with others some of the things that I have gone through with others that have gone through similar.

Now that I have actually stepped out and said anything, I not so sure I should again.

Unsure now. ???

There's no ganging up! I think we just want you to share our love of summer barbecues! Can't you do it on a Friday or Saturday evening?  :)

I dont' think people are ganging up, I think they're just talking about the weather.  It's what we do ;)

I don't ALWAYS love the long days.  When I had babies and toddlers it was a huge pain in the neck to have them wake up at 5 AM.  And now the 12 year old thinks if it's still light out there's no reason for her to be asleep.

No, it's not always great, but in my opinion you have to take the good weather and enjoy it while you can.

LOL...I never said I did'nt love BBQs, and I never got a chance to say that sometimes my DW and I have them on Sats. That is when we are not walking around the countryside.

edit: hell sometimes I BBQ in the snow! :P

Ha! We did that this year!  One of our friends was DETERMINED to have a barbecue for his January birthday.  And it snowed! A lot! So a few of us stood next to the grill with our winter coats on, holding umbrellas over it.  We had tried to just leave the umbrella placed over the grill so we could go inside--but it started to melt! (oops!)

It still tasted nice though.  And it was certainly an adventure.

yeah this is great if you live in a utopian world like maybe the way people live on a TV soap box opera?..lol...yeah, I'd love that too, but I'm afraid that's not how the 'real' world works. (not unless your 18 or 20)

By 10 pm I'm already cutting some much needed z's because I have to get up at 4:30 am every other day to either catch the ridiculous exorbitantly priced train (that's very seldom on time) to lectures or work. So, entertaining friends at a BBQ is obviously for me not only a luxury but almost an impossible impracticality. You see, when you start getting older, you need more rest. :-\\\\ And if you you got some money to loan me for the blinds?..that'd be cool because at the outrageous price their at, I really cant afford them (glad somebody can). ;D....and as far as the cats are concerned?-shut the door, turn on the AC like I've gotten (used my BBQ money for that) and go back to sleep. Sorted. :)

I'm nearly 41.

Pretty sure I paid less than £20 at Homebase for the blackout blind for the bedroom.

We only have people over at the weekend as we work quite long hours as well, but I'd rather be tired than never have any fun.

When I travel back to the States, I find that it's easier for me flying there then when I'm flying back here.  I usually go the route of Manchester to Philadelphia, then Philly to Nashville.  Usually I get into Philly at about 1pm Eastern time, then around 6pm to Nashville, depending on flight times and delays etc.  I feel more awake when I come to the States, probably because for my brain, when the sun is out, I need to be alert and awake.  The other reason is excitement cause I'm going back home.  Also, before I fly, I set my mobile phone clock to American time, my Nintendo DS to American time and try to set my mind to that time too.  It's something I've always done on my numerous flights to home.  When I get back here though, it's worse, cause I usually land at about 815am British time, and it takes about a week to re-adjust fully.  I also feel depressed cause it's always 2 years between visits.  Sorry to go on so long, I was just being descriptive of how it works for me.  LOL!!!  I do love the days when the sun doesn't go down till around 10 or 11pm here.

Oh! I have fun all the time!..but on the other hand, there is reality, and back to work I go with a full night's sleep. Without work there is no fun. And without sleep there is no work. In my line of work, I have to maintain optimal performance. Cant afford to go round all the time sleepy. been there done that.

I can't believe Tim doesn't have black out blinds with his crazy shift schedule. Me thinks I ought to buy him a set for his birthday!

I don't recall seeing a Homebase store in Lincoln, though. Do you think B&Q would carry it?

Ooh I could use these too, thanks for posting.

My little flat is east-facing, and at the moment I just have some nice, transulcent white cotton roman blinds. Well, at the moment it gets light outside as early as 4 to 4.30 in the morning!! I have huge picture windows, very beautifual and bright, but they do mean that this flat is ablaze with bright daylight from the wee hours onward, and my cat thinks it's time I should get up--- every day! These will solve that problem.
