Yorkshire Yanks Book Group meeting - May 2009
« on: April 18, 2009, 01:18:35 PM »
Following on from the discussion in the April meeting thread....

As our April meeting was cancelled for various reasons, we will be attempting to discuss Taste: The Story of Britain Through Its Cooking at the May meeting, whenever it might take place.  The venue will be Milan's, in Harrogate; if you are interested in attending, please vote in the poll above!  New members are always welcome; as always, our meetings are about 20% book discussion and 80% general socialisation, so reading/finishing the book isn't a requirement. ;D

Planning ahead: per exjerseygirl's suggestion, our June meeting will take place on June 6th at the Harlow Carr Botanical Gardens just outside Harrogate.  Rather than setting a book to read for June, E suggested we share our favourite poems with the group - unless there's strong disagreement with this idea, that's what we'll be doing! :)

I've totally given up on trying to plan for this- it seems like whenever I'm available the meeting ends up being cancelled or moved, and when it's on I can't make it for whatever reason! And going up to Harrogate takes some advance planning since I've got to fit it into our budget. So, I'm not going to try anymore- you guys have fun!

Hiya ladies...

Just a quick note that if we meet at Milan's on a Saturday we may want to book a table in advance-it has gotten crazier since it has switched hands AND they come to the table now to take your order.  Will double check to make sure we can have separate tickets but that may not be possible :)  Will let you know!

Springhaze, sorry that you won't be able to join us!

Thanks, swelch2 - please keep us updated on the sitch there!  :-*  Then once the date is agreed, we'll have a good idea what's going on - I hope!

Sorry you can't make it, springhaze, and that the group scheduling has been a bit flaky the last couple months.  Hopefully, we'll get it back on track - with more advance notice about what's going on.

Hoping that the 2 of you who voted for May 9th will still make plans to get together, and hopefully you'll have some more last minute interest.  :)

I would love to be there, but I won't be around that day, unfortunately.

Hi everybody!  Is anyone at all getting together this month (i.e., next Saturday) or shall we just call May a wash?  It's been tough with all the bank holidays (yay for bank holidays! not knocking bank holidays ;)), so many of us traveling this month every different direction, etc etc.  I won't be around next Saturday, otherwise I'd have loved to have met up with any of you.  :-*

In any case, I suggest we start looking forward to this:

As it sounds like a nice day out!  (and I'm hoping for a hot summer this year!  8))

Well, June is in the States, Cinbin and I are supposed to be hiking 14 miles up Pen-y-ghent, Meg's sister is in town and Mrs. R is leaving for the states (have a FAB time).

However, I will be scoping out Harlow Carr next week (or the week after - no matter) when the Grammas are in town for our June meet-up.  I believe that we could meet beforehand in the Betty's cafe there, then those who wanted to go into the gardens could do so (since you don't have to pay admission to the gardens to go to the Bettys).  I might (will) disappear for two weeks starting Tuesday, but if I survive, I'll start pushing the June meeting.

Thanks for the heads up ladies :)

Sorry I have been MIA-we are in the process of moving and since I am now the only receptionist at work I have been working insane hours.  At least I get paid!  :D

Mrs. R, we ARE catching up when you get back.  Hopefully I will have Fridays off by then.

E and Cin, have fun with your hike!!

Meg, how did I not know your sister was here??  Hope ya'll are having a fabulous time!!!
