Thanks, has anyone used this VitalChek that is advertised to send birth or dead certificates? Some one told me that they weren't the best service to use in ordering a birth certificate.

Or you can just download the form off the site that I linked and fill it out and send it in to the address that they list. I did that when I got mine from Oregon and it only took 1 week to get it back.

Yeah, I found it easiest to print the form off from online, then sent it to California with my money and I got it back within a week or so. I just did a google search for the county I was born in, and found the department I needed to order it from, I didn't use any other websites.

Thanks you all. Appreciate the help. My old birth certificate got a stain on it and I needed a new one to get my US passport renewed this year. I was looking for the easiest way to get the copy.

Just an FYI: You don't need a birth certificate for a passport renewal, just your old passport and if you've done a name change then proof of that.

I don't have another old passport. Just the one I have now. I got it in 1999. There was a name change done in it.  I do have a US drivers license.

You just send in your current passport with your renewal application and they return it to you marked 'cancelled' with your new passport.

I'll be glad to get it all done! I am going for citizenship and I want to get this done first.

This is absolutely right.  I just did it about a year and a half ago, it was pretty quick and easy.

I've also used VitalChek to get a copy of my birth certificate.  Since I have moved around a lot, they actually wouldn't release my records to me, because they couldn't "verify my identity" based on past addresses.  I had to get my mom to place the order for me.  Very annoying.  Expensive too, I think it cost about $40, though that may have been expedited service.
