I figured that would be the case and that the first week I would be hurting.  Do you plan on continuing to use it?

Well, I'd like to, but I'm afraid I will injure myself if I overdo it. It's very tough. I was far too sore to do it again yesterday, so I took that day off. And then today, I am still far too sore to do it again, so I am taking today off, too. Hopefully I can do it again tomorrow, though I'm a bit scared of it now... lol. But I do think if I did it two or three times a week I might get used to it, and I expect I would see a big difference. My legs, arms and abs are all very sore (but my legs are KILLING me). It helped to walk it out last night and I plan to do the same tonight, too, just to help ease the soreness out a bit so I can try it again. I don't see the point of going through this pain if I just give it up now!  :P

It was probably too much too fast.  I hope you don't mind me asking, how much exercise have you been doing before doing the video.  I remember the first time since college I decided to get in shape and the first day I did a series of squats and I was in soooo much pain the next day.  It didn't take long though to get past it though, I think it was just a shock to the muscles.  Perhaps getting a different video that isn't so intense might be a better start?   This one also sounds good and sounds a bit less intensive

Regardless, don't give up! Your muscles will work past it! Besides, when my video comes I'll need you to say this to me :-)

The only exercise I was getting before the video was some bike riding and walking. I did the Davina workout last year for a while and it was twice as long with loads of squats and lunges and I was never this sore! I guess maybe its the way the exercises are combined in the 30 Day Shred that make it so much harder in half the time. But I definitely want to try it again, as only working out for 20 minutes and getting a really effective workout sounds better to me than spending 40 minutes or longer to get the same sort of results. I'm not quite as sore now as I was this morning, so I'm really considering just working through the pain and trying it again tonight. But I'm still not too sold on that. Maybe if I take a quick walk first to warm up and then another short walk afterwards to cool down and add a bit more stretching to the end of it (there isn't a whole lotta stretching going on at the end of that workout since its so short) then I might be okay. But going up and down the stairs today is still pretty painful so I might be better off waiting until tomorrow night to do it again. Hmmmm. Or is one and a half days of rest good enough? I can't imagine being much MORE sore than this at any rate.  ;)

I'm thinking anything with the word 'Shred' in the title is probably a very bad idea (for me).  :P  I'd join you for the 30 minute first-thing-in-the-morning-walk, Jewlz, but on my work days that would mean getting up at 4:45 am...uh, the answer is no.

But I need to figure something out...to be determined.

That's how the light gets in...

I bought the 30-Day Shred video after I finished my bootcamp class this summer and I could barely sit on the toilet my quads were so sore! I learned to adjust my weights accordingly, so I'm still sore but not so sore I can't move!

Jewlz, what if you try doing it without the weights (or very low weights) the first time and work yourself up to more?

Haha... I don't blame you. I wouldn't get up that darn early! I only have to wake up at 7am in order to do it, so that's definitely doable. I can't really make excuses not to do that (unless it's chucking it down outside, then I can always just snooze a while longer. :P)

Yeah, I was that sore, too. I had to ease myself down onto the toilet and I was hobbling up and down the stairs! Thankfully lots of walking (painful though it was at first) and stretching afterwards did a world of good. I feel normal again today (after 2 days of pain). I was a bit ambitious and started with my middle hand weights (maybe 1.5kg?) so I think I will try again tonight but just use the lightest ones (1kg) and if I start feeling too much burn in my legs, I will take out some of the squats and just use the weights during those parts. And I think the few little stretches at the end of the workout aren't really enough, so I will probably add in about another 5 - 10 minutes of stretching afterwards. I really, really underestimated how hard the workout would be. I watched it all the way through the day before I started, just to see what it was like, and of course, it didn't look that hard to me. Big mistake I won't be making again!  :P

I got my video today and was going to do a workout but I have a drive up to Glasgow for a party tomorrow so perhaps I should hold off till I get back.  I don't plan on using weights at first, my body is heavy enough to work the muscles until they are ready for added weight ;-)  I'll let you know how I feel the day after I do it.

Woohoo! I did the workout last night with the lighter handweights and then I walked for another half hour. I feel great today - barely any soreness this time. I swear I can already see a difference (I'm sure I'm just imagining things... but it makes me feel good!) And I weighed one pound less this morning, even though I went over my calorie budget with the wine last night (I felt I had earned that wine, darn it!) I'm going to do it again tomorrow. I think doing it every day is overkill. I've always heard you are supposed to rest a day after strength training, so that's what I plan to do. I will go for a long walk today, though, just to help burn off some calories before I go out tonight because I am sure I might gain that pound back.  :P

Another pound gone! That makes me officially 9 stone, with a total loss so far of 12 pounds.  ;D I swear, everytime I do that 30 Day Shred dvd, I lose a pound. And I'm proud of how much easier it's become for me... it hasn't taken too long to adjust to it, considering how sore I was when I first did it. My upper arms already look a bit leaner and tighter than before. I might move up to the second level next week. I've been doing well on the walks, at least 30 minutes each day, though I haven't always done them in the morning. It was raining this morning, so I just snoozed a bit longer and then made myself a nice breakfast. I'm planning to walk for 30 minutes after work tonight to make it up.  :)
How's everyone else doing so far?

Last week when I weighed in, I was 3.5 lbs down, but since it was a bank holiday, I didn't weigh in this monday, so I've been maintaining my diet and exercise habits, although probably did indulge a little too much over the weekend.  So we'll see what the scales say on Monday.

I have to say, the cardio boxing classes make my arms a LOT less jiggly.  I've got to lose a chunk of weight (I'd like to lose 20-25 or so) but I feel like I'm on my way.

Well I planned on starting the video this Tuesday but I had those once a year killer cramps.. you know the ones that are SOOOO much worse then your average monthly ones. Figured I shouldn't add to the pain with a first time workout.  I just did the video and I feel AWESOME.  I forgot how wonderful it feels to work out.  I actually thought the 20 minutes was short but I am sticking my cardinal rule: doing a new exercise regime... keep it simple for the first time see how your fitness level fits in.

@Jewlz a few days ago you mentioned that if your legs start to hurt you'll just take out the legs and keep the weights, while this might not pertain anymore since a week has passed, can I suggest that you take out the weights and keep the leg movements.

Anyway, I'll check in tomorrow to see how my body feels.  Congrats to everyone who is ramping up... can't wait to start to see some changes :-)

Ps... can you tell I have significant amount of endorphins running through me?

I didn't take out the leg movements, I just decreased the amount of weight (to 1kg) on the side lunges with anterior raises (I could barely lift my arms with the 1.5kg weights...lol) and then I increased the weight on the chest flies because those were easier for me (2kg weights) and then I left the 1.5kg weights for the squats with press. So I basically just sort of tailored the amount of weight I was using for each exercise so that it was still challenging and effective, but not too difficult for my fitness level (which is still pretty bleak). I struggle too much through that second round of jumping jacks for some reason. So much so that halfway through the second set, I've been having to switch to butt kicks instead because those are a bit easier for me, but I figure keeping my heart rate up is all that really matters. Also, I've been doing the "girl" pushups, though I always try to start with the regular ones. I guess it will take some time to really do the whole thing properly, but I am still definitely getting a good workout from it.
If you want something longer, but similar, definitely try the Davina Super Body Workout... the Super Fit part of the workout is a lot like the 30-Day Shred but lasts for 40 minutes. It's very good.  :)
