Thanks- Well done on the workout before 9am. I wish I had that kind of motivation to move my body before work!

It was a bit of a struggle but I know I won't have any motivation post-work, so it's basically my only option. (Plus I love the "yay, I already worked out and feel good/tired", so knowing I've got that all day while sitting on my butt not burning calories at work helps.)

So I was chatting with a friend yesterday about making progress on my workout routine (day 5 today, woo!), and he kept making disparaging remarks…"those dumbbells are piddly weights", "why don't you just get a bench and a bar and real weights", "why bother with videos when you can just do exercises on your own", etc.

Seriously?! I don't care if you think they are "piddly" weights, they're enough for me. If I want something heavier, I have a gym right across the street to use (but frankly, weights are cheaper/easier right now). I live in a tiny London flat with a flatmate and large dog - I don't have room for a dumbbell bar, let alone a bench and larger weights. I like the video because it gives me structure and variety, all-in-one. If I were just mindlessly lifting weights I wouldn't work as hard (or as effectively). Not to mention, why do you care what I'm doing to feel more fit?

That said - I used my 10lb weights today (doing chest flies)!! I may pay for it later, of course. ;) I also used the 5lb weights to start every other exercise, except the stupid arm raises which I suck at…still ended those with no weights, but I'm making progress, especially for only being on day 5.

Two more days of getting up early and commuting, and then the weekend should be easier.

Hope everyone else's week is going well, both fitness wise and otherwise.

Uh but also, you're really slim, so I guess you're looking to lose a little, mainly tone and get healthier, not get really ripped! Medium weight, high rep is much better than doing low rep high weight for that sort of thing anyway!

Aw, thanks! And yes, I really would just like to feel healthier - have more endurance, feel stronger, etc. If I happen to lose a little weight, get a bit more toned, great. I have NO desire to be remotely close to "ripped", because frankly I think that looks a little scary/unnatural.

So yeah, a workout that has me sweating but not having dead muscles is perfect for me.

I'm on Day 5 of my diet and I've lost about 4 kilo already (I guess that's around 8lbs).  Seems like a lot but I've been eating...A LOT...just eating really healthy (fresh fruit and veg and lots of fat free yogurt).  I haven't been exercising yet because I didn't want to overload myself with the new lifestyle...plus I'm still waiting for my stupid exercise videos to come in.   >:(

Had my 6 week checkup at the surgery today and I've lost 26lbs since giving birth.  Woot! Woot!

Wow e2w, good for you!

I'll get back to running as soon as I'm a wee bit settled.  As it is, only been here three days and my pants (trousers  ;)) are already a bit loose.  I chalk it up to my body being so confused it doesn't know when it ought to eat!

Gym on Sunday for an hour - slightly less than half of my old routine, but better than nothing!

Walked the 3 miles into town yesterday for errands and either park walk tonight or gym, dependent on how Mr MLG is feeling.

I feel back in the land of the living!  :)

woohoo!
I feel back in the land of the living!  :)

Finally! I hope to be right behind you! ;-)

Well after visiting the states these past 2 weeks I realized Yep I have put on 20 pounds since last Sept (pregnant with twins and pregnancy not lasting - I gained 10!), moving, the stress AND the new birth control I am on!
So enough is enough
I am doing phase 1 of south beach for 2 weeks to kick start my body and I am done with these BC.  I only had 1 month left anyway of these pills so we will just be careful till the beginning of the year when we TTC.
Being slightly sick helps with this starting point ;-)

The song "I like to move it, move it" is in my head now if only my body would agree ;-)

I think I'm pretty strong muscle-wise (loads and loads of lifting and moving heavy boxes and bags at my work), and not overweight BMI-wise, but I am concerned about my cardio-vascular fitness.  I get out of breath very easily (going up the stairs quickly, etc.)

Does anyone know of a good exercise that would build up cardio-vascular fitness that doesn't involve a gym or running or jogging?  Walking very briskly maybe?  :-\\\\

Is poor cardio-vascular fitness even the correct way to describe the way I get out of breath?

It sounds like developing your cardiovascular fitness could help.

I'd suggest a brisk daily walk of 20 minutes or so and maybe put a small dumbell in a rucksack to wear for your walk (maybe also put some foam in there to protect your back) to challenge your heart. Increase by 5 - 10 minutes at regular increments when you feel the current stage is no longer a challenge.

 :)
