Andee have you ever been checked for Asthma? If not you might want to just in case before you start trying to improve your fitness.

Andee, have you considered swimming? If you're going for brisk walks, look for a hilly course and MLG's suggestion of putting a weight in a backpack is a good one.

When you say you're out of breath, are you able to easily catch it again or do you feel like you're really struggling?

It sounds like developing your cardiovascular fitness could help.

I'd suggest a brisk daily walk of 20 minutes or so and maybe put a small dumbell in a rucksack to wear for your walk (maybe also put some foam in there to protect your back) to challenge your heart. Increase by 5 - 10 minutes at regular increments when you feel the current stage is no longer a challenge.

 :)
Good advice.  Especially about the weight in a backpack.

Somebody else mentioned this.  I have never been checked for it, I think I should get checked soon.

Swimming would be good, but that does mean joining a gym and wearing a swimsuit, so unlikely to happen.  The suggestion of hilly terrain is an excellent one, because that's where I notice I get out of breath--going up hills and stairs.

I do catch my breath easily, but sometimes I actually have to sit down because I feel a bit sick.  It doesn't sound good, does it?  Especially for someone who has never smoked!

Worth seeing your GP Andee

As for the pool, I use the council pool or another school pool - I've never joined- just do pay as you go- so maybe there's something like that where you live?  (That way if you can try it, but if you're not into it, you don't waste money on a membership)
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I agree about seeing your GP just to get things checked out.

Don't know if these local drop in classes are still going:

I kinda miss going to the gym...I don think its the gym part but the act of leaving the house everyday and having a purpose.

This SB phase 1 no carbs/sugar/fruit thing is killing me. 5 days and I have been so good on but I am to the point where I would rather not eat then have the same ol same again. I don't think that is the point of it.
I may just portion control and join the darn gym - fork out the moolaa

I am slight frustrated ;-)

I can't afford a gym membership.  :(

Oh my gosh, I just noticed this!  I have a *giant* fruit salad for breakfast most days--I crave it!  I could never do SB even if I wasn't vegetarian.

As for the pool, most leisure centres have pay as you go options. Oh, and wearing a bathing suit...I'm sure you would look lovely in a suit! You can hang your towel just near where you get in and out of the water and once you're in the water, no one can see you!

Can you look up some recipes online or something to find something different? Aren't you supposed to add a serving of carbs in at the second week? It's really tough to go low carb. I've always found it easier to go the other way and stop eating meat instead. Either way, you lose weight. But now I just log in all of my calories and balance my meals and just control portions to get between 1200-1500 calories per day. That seems to work best for me, along with doing an exercise video at least 3 times a week and going for short walks every day.  :)
