I am back on the wagon again and have been for about a week.  I am not sure how much I am down, but I know it's at least 4 pounds.

We're meant to get a big veg/fruit/meat box delivered tomorrow.  Mr A is dropping his junkfood to see if a more basic diet centred around veg, fruit, eggs, meat, and fish will help him (basically a slightly less strict version of what I eat).  He's eaten that way in the past, and it usually helps his breathing, sore throats, etc.  It just gets a bit hard to keep the weight on him.  He's 6'2 and it usually brings his weight down to the 170s when he eats that way. He's not heavy now, although he did have weight issues at times in the past.  We just don't want him to get too thin. Plus, he's always tempted to eat a bunch of crap.  I've never really met a bigger junk food junky.

I fell off the wagon before we went away Jan 27th..back on today now that DH is back to work.
I was up 2 lbs  :-\\\\
I just want to drop 20 pounds - it shouldn't be that hard right <snort>
I decided to quit being lame and do 1 hour of biggest loser not 30 min each day!
I may even walk to the pub quiz tonight.
If I lose 2 lbs a week that puts me at April which would be fab as that is a month we can try to get preggo.

I get bored so easily though so I may join the gym anyways

I'm still on the wagon but finding it very depressing to see the scale go back up during that time of the month despite busting my butt for another week.

I'm also finding that my calfs are really tight.  I've been streaching out and keep extending my streach time.  Does anyone have any good calf streaching ideas?

The one I use for riding is to stand on halfway on a step (so the ball of your foot is on the stair and your heel is not) and push your weight into your heels.

This is a great one. Also, if you have one of those "exercise bands" you can wrap it around your foot and stretch your calf that way. ( I'm an expert at stretches you can do without leaving the couch :) .)

I know how that feels.   :(

It's really lovely once that week is over and the bloating and water-retention go down and the scale zooms back to where it should have been.   ;D

Sscarllet if your gym has a power plate I highly recommend using it an if you don't know to use it ask someone to show you how to use it I swear by the one at my gym!! ;)  ;D  Dh knows when I haven't used the power plate cause the next morning I can be extra grouchy cause I'm a little extra sore from the previous days at the gym even though I did my stretches.  ::)  :P

Anyone can change the name- and I'm sure no one would object if it were changed to something you like better!

Or even better, start your own thread on UKY Fitness!  Call it whatever you'd like to call it!  We do have to retire threads from time to time anyway when they get too big.  So if you want a thread for 'Exercise Checkin' (or <insert clever name>) - then start one!  Or if you want a thread for 'My Food Diary' - by all means!  Fighting Fat Club?  Go for it!  To the limits of your imagination and beyond!  ;D

Don't really understand how this thread is different or less emotive?

What I feel is getting lost here (or not conveyed) is that the intent behind Shrinkers child board originally was that some of us struggling with weight loss wanted something more private - as a mutual support group.  A (UKY) support group of people struggling with weight loss supporting each other also struggling with weight loss.  It's not really intended for anyone & everyone to join & give unsolicited advice & commentary - hence why it's a bit more private, support group.

Much like Additional Needs Parenting is only intended for people who are actually in that situation.  Or differently, but along similar thinking - the Homesickness & Hard Times board - which translates into being more sensitive & less judgemental.  If you are a person who has truly struggled with weight loss, then you will know that the issue can be absolutely loaded with sensitive & emotive issues - and IMHO, that is what the Shrinkers child board is all about (people who feel & understand that, supporting each other).  There are times when people come on the general board (UKY Fitness) and post things that people with weight issues find hugely (no pun intended) insensitive - they may not even realise they are being insensitive...the Shrinkers child board is intended to be a safe haven away from that.

Meanwhile, there's the whole of the UKY Fitness thread for everyone - those who are trying to lose weight & aren't bothered on added privacy, those who are trying to gain weight, those who aren't trying to do either, those who are looking to get fit, those who are taking up a new sport, discussing Wii Fit, runners, etc etc etc.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

But then...it's all topped off by calling the thread quite a negative thing and trying to push all the discussion into a hidden board? I didn't know anyone could rename threads to be honest, how is this done?

There's lots of people who post in this thread that don't have serious weight problems and like to discuss losing 10lbs, they have good input and deserve support, making them apply to enter a hidden section seems a bit ridiculous, they wont do that and we'd lose their voices, yes people can say insensitive things but that's not limited to people who don't have weight to lose, some of the people that say the worst things (imo) have asked to be members of the child board. Possibly it's nosy parker syndrome! :P I thought the point of having mods was that we could report those insensitive people. I don't want to have to say everything I need to say in a hidden board because potentially someone could be insensitive to me. Fat people hide in the shadows way too much as it is!

To be honest I think this is one of those, if it aint broke don't fix it issues.... A kind reminder that if people have more serious specific issues with weight they can post it in the hidden board and let the current thread continue as is, or if it's too big, lock it and start a new identical thread.

But then I'm not a mod :)

There is no effort to push this discussion anywhere. Shrinkers has existed for many years and this was originally the thread that told people about it. It's been renamed because most people posting here are no longer talking about Shrinkers itself.

No one is forcing anyone to only post in Shrinkers if you need to lose weight. The intent, as Mrs R notes, is to provide a place for people with serious weight issues to have a private place to post if they want it. In other words, their posts can't be found via a search engine and the rest of UKY won't happen upon it via 'recent unread topics'.

If you feel there are people who may already be in Shrinkers whom you may feel shouldn't be, that's why there are mods here. You need to let us know and we can look into any concerns.

As for 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'... I'm not sure what you mean. Shrinkers is there, it's private. It always has been. *This* particular thread has been renamed and may even get split up in the tidying process and remain in the general UKY Fitness board.

'Weighty matters' was done by a mod. Mods can rename threads as can the OP within a certain time frame. You can also always request a thread title be changed and that would certainly be considered.

This is all still a work in progress... feedback is always welcome. :)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Okay... it's been said over and over... but being the one that initiated the whole thing.

1.  This thread was meant to point to the Shrinkers child board.  It offers a modicum of privacy, but is still open to everyone pretty much that requests it.
2. I asked for name suggestions, the mod of Fitness sent me a msg, I told her any name was fine, and she changed it.  I only wanted to do this so I could reclaim the "Shrinkers" title to avoid confusion.
3.  If you prefer a more private setting ask for Shrinkers, if you don't care post in here.
4. Shrinkers is a bit more closely modded for support like Homesickness and Additional Needs.  Hence I just did a purge to see who wanted to stay in or not and then I was planning on posting a thread in Fitness for it. <--hence #2.

Plain and simple.  Now if  you want this thread renamed again I am open to suggestions.  You have until tomorrow 9 pm EST, then I'll put up a poll and we can vote.

Then I'll lock this one and everyone can have a nice new thread with a new name that satisfies the majority.

Definitely doesn't have that, never even seen one before.  I go to a really small Synergy and it doesn't have much besides machines and a handful of weights, no classes or anything like that.  I only picked it because it's a whopping 1.5 minute walk from my apt!  When I got to London in just over a week I'm going to try and check out the gym in the village that df lives in.  Maybe they will have one!
