Holiday Idea
« on: April 25, 2009, 12:28:31 PM »
I met up with an old friend of mine last night who has married a Californian girl and after living in the US for a while they have now settled in the UK - Lichfield. Their plans for holidays this year i thought were really good...

She misses the sea so he bought her the DVD set of the series Coast and told her to pick some spots to visit. They have both booked as holiday every Monday in July and August and will spend each weekend visiting a different place - just driving there and finding a B&B each night. What a great idea and a great way to see the country too! He also plans to get there just using A and B roads so she can see the countryside too.

I think they are quite lucky as Lichfield is right in the centre of England so everywhere is quite accessible. If your planning summer holdiays in the uk where are you going?

There's also a Coast book of walks centered around the series, which we have & intend to eventually work our way through those.

We are going to have a week's self-catering summer holiday along the Northumberland coast.  :)

We don't normally take holidays - that's what comes of having a self-employed partner. But this year, since we're getting married, we actually get a week's honeymoon in a castle in Wales at the seaside. Heaven.  :)

I've had my holiday this year... a week of drinking real ale around various places in North Yorkshire.

My husband took us to Scotland this year on our holiday....was absolutely wonderful and beautiful Ayrshire...we would have done more exploring except our car broke down on day 2 and we didn't get it back until the end of day 5 and we went home on day 7. But we did manage to see Loch Doon and Doon Castle on day 2 before the car went belly up and then we did a bit of driving up the Ayrshire Coast after we got it back...we hope to get back up there soon.

Just a thought for your friends, depending on the seaside destination - if they wait to find a B&B once they get there, during peak holidays season in July & August - they might find themselves camping out in the car vs staying in a nice B&B.  I'd be more inclined to pre-book, but then I'm paranoid about not finding a suitable place available.  :)

We're considering going camping in Cornwall.  I really hope we can, but it's going to depend on finances, since we've already got a major commitment this summer.

Any idea where in Cornwall you might be going?

We live here, so will probably camp a couple of weekends during the summer ... unless the weather is like last summer's. But since it's close to home and only for a night or two, I don't count that a real holiday, though I probably should.

Don't know, I'll ask DH.  He's camped there several times before, and I suspect he is thinking that we'll just go somewhere he knows.  But if I'm going to Cornwall, then I want to go clear down to the tip.
