Proving US loans for visa app
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:57:01 PM »
What docs should I include with my visa app to prove that I have US loans paying for school. Neither the school or Sallie Mae has sent me any letter or documentation by mail that says I'm approved and ready for funds to be dispursed. It's only online, it seems. How do people usually do this?

I got a letter of guarantee from the lender about a month after the paperwork was submitted, followed by something similar from the university about 3 months before my programme began. If you're starting in the Autumn, give it some time (barring any other deadlines you have that change things for you).

I got hard copy letters for my student visa application way back when...but as I recall I had to call one of my lenders and get them to send me a letter in the post for the visa.  It took a couple of weeks of bugging them about it, but they came through.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

I think I sent in a copy of my master promissory note, along with bank statements for my personal contributions.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Student visa rules are totally different to Tier 4 rules though.

'Student visas' as they were don't exist any more.  Anyone applying to come to the UK to study needs to apply for a 'Tier 4' visa.  The main difference here is with the funding.  So as Kristi got her student visas some years ago, it is likely that the documents she sent would not be good enough for someone who was applyling now.

In this case, however, the loan in question would work towards the financial requirement. Right now, the $20,500 from the Stafford loans comes out to £14,000.  Assuming an overseas tuition of £9000 for the programme and living alone outside of London, you're still a few thousand short for the maintenance funds.

Do you mean in my case? I'm confused... again.  ???

Whoops, there was supposed to be a break there.  First sentence was to Vicky, the rest was for you.
