BUGS - do I need to pack spray??

Does the UK have lots of mosquitos??

My poor one-year-old gets eaten alive here in Maryland (they don't bother with me). 
We leave on Sunday for London (for a month) then Essex (permanently).  As I ship the essentials (which are supposed to be less expensive here) should I include more than one can of bug spray?

PS.  Any other essentials for my daughter I should get here?  The company is paying our relocation, but our financial situation will not be settled until August - I want to be prepared!

I've not been bitten by one mosquito in the almost six years I've been here.  I'm currently on the Herts/Essex border and don't really have any problem with bugs.

(BTW, welcome to the site from another Maryland girl!)

Don't quote me on this, but I'm not sure there even are mosquitoes in the UK! I'm fairly certain I heard this and I've never seen one. There are midges, espcially in Scotland but I'm not sure how far south they go.

My husband calls them mosquitos, but I call them gnats. What he calls gnats, well I don't call them anything but they aren't gnats. US and US big names are all screwed up and wrong. But the kind of mosquito you are thinking of? I've never seen a one here, and we live right by the water.

that's good news!   

There must be something in the Maryland air calling us across the Atlantic to the UK!  Thank you for the welcome... I won't bring any mosquitos with me

I'd bring a couple of cans... just two... to keep piece of mind. The mozzies here are surprisingly sparse, but there are some, and they do dine on us.  If you don't need to use the spray, WONDERFUL! I am always one to prepare for anything. Better safe than sorry.

We do have insect spray cans here, so why bother to bring them?

I agree. There's lots of other things worth bringing but I wouldn't say insect spray is one of them.

Well, yeah, but this is for a one year old child. Perhaps the brand that is being used is pretty specific, and you cannot get it here in the UK. I could not find Hyland's Teething tablets here in the UK, and believe you, me, not all teething tablets or powders or insect sprays for that matter are created equal.

We got eaten alive by mosquitos last year at our old house. I think it was location though, we haven't seen more than a couple in our new house.  Either way, bug spray isn't very expensive.
