Work permit dependant but husband will quit
« on: April 28, 2009, 11:30:53 PM »
Hi all,

I am here as a work permit dependant. My husband, American, was sponsored by his company and I found a job here as his dependant. 18 months later, we are planning to move back to the US soon and he has given notice.

My question: for how long can I stay at my job once he has stopped working? He would ideally stop a month before me - is that possible at all for me to stay employed for a few weeks once he is not anymore? What is the maximum amount of time I can remain at my job, legally?

Trying to get the right info before I go to my HR...

Thanks!!

Once his visa ceases to be valid, your does too.  Realistically, as long as the Home Office don't actually curtail his visa you are both able to stay. I'd say that you shouldn't work for more than 28 days after he has stopped. This isn't written in any rules, but that's about the limit you could argue if you apply to come back at any point.

Thanks so much Vicky - basically I wanted to know how much notice I was going to be able to give at work, so I guess max 4 weeks, which is perfect for me.
