Odd words, spellings, license plates, grammar.

I'm in Madison.  You're from up north, right?

Where I'm from (West Central Wisconsin), it would often come out as more like 'a couple two tree'!

I say that all the time! My DH thinks it's hilarious and he says it too now. I think it's from watching the many SNL skits with 'Da Bears!', because it's definitely not a PA thing! 

When I was younger we lived near Edinburgh for a while and I remember people saying things like 'my hair's needing cut' rather than 'my hair needs cutting'. 

I also liked the word 'outwith' which is almost the same as outside and the opposite of within (but not quite!).  It could be used in many ways, such as 'that's outwith my area of responsiblity' or 'outwith Scotland they .....'.  I'm sure anyone living in Scotland could come up with more examples.

When I lived in Florida something that struck me odd was the saying "put up" instead of put away, so it was "put up your calculators.." lol

I never got hung, hang and hanged. A man gets hanged not hung. *shrug*

how about is some place is a dive, a crummy bar as in  "I'm not going there, it's such a dive".

My San Antonian ex-husband loved to call a beer a "brewski" -- I guess this one does travel far thanks to SNL!

My bf says that! Not the "borrow me" part but the "couple, three." I'll be there in a couple three minutes.

Maybe it's Cornish as well? Or maybe he's just wrong.
