I'm in Madison.  You're from up north, right?

La Crosse.  But I went to UW Eau Claire.

Where I'm from (West Central Wisconsin), it would often come out as more like 'a couple two tree'!

Yes!  And a beer is a "brewski." Does anyone else say that?  "I'm gonna godda da bar, hava couple, two tree brewskis, wanna come?"

I say that all the time! My DH thinks it's hilarious and he says it too now. I think it's from watching the many SNL skits with 'Da Bears!', because it's definitely not a PA thing!  ;D

When I was younger we lived near Edinburgh for a while and I remember people saying things like 'my hair's needing cut' rather than 'my hair needs cutting'.

I also liked the word 'outwith' which is almost the same as outside and the opposite of within (but not quite!).  It could be used in many ways, such as 'that's outwith my area of responsiblity' or 'outwith Scotland they .....'.  I'm sure anyone living in Scotland could come up with more examples.

These are great to read!

When I lived in Florida something that struck me odd was the saying "put up" instead of put away, so it was "put up your calculators.." lol

I never got hung, hang and hanged. A man gets hanged not hung. *shrug*

how about is some place is a dive, a crummy bar as in  "I'm not going there, it's such a dive".

I can't think of anything else at the moment. Good luck with the paper

My San Antonian ex-husband loved to call a beer a "brewski" -- I guess this one does travel far thanks to SNL!

Hiya!!

Here's my 'license plate' !

Always causes a laugh and people roughly fall into the one of two ways to read/pronounce it!

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough!

Cool!

My bf says that! Not the "borrow me" part but the "couple, three." I'll be there in a couple three minutes.

Maybe it's Cornish as well? Or maybe he's just wrong.  :P

Interestingly, there was a fairly decent-sized Cornish settlement in Wisconsin in the early 19th century, so it's very possible!

I think my friend Kris (who lives in Janesville) told me that! Miners, right? Interesting because I never knew that, but I did know about all the Welsh settlers in Wisconsin!

Yes, lead miners!  Who, apparently, all ran off to California as soon as gold was discovered.  At least they left their pasty recipes behind. ;)
