On the US standards of attractiveness topic , I noticed when I was last in the states that all the female newsreaders have this sort of similar plastic surgery, botox, face non-moving look. I was very surprised, comparing them to our newsreaders....long straight hair, bee stung lips (whatever that means) very long straightened hair, very very made up looking...it was a bit off putting while watching the news. Anyone know what I mean?

Yep, just about anyone out of hollywood looks like that these days.......Just a little left of the Joker but not quite....

Oh, i've just got to ask! What does US standards mean exactly??? Fake boobs? Extra white teeth?  ;D

Good grief - perhaps I should not have said that.  :-X I am tall, thin and in good shape (can be thin and be in poor shape), long blond hair (yes it is straight - naturally), blue eyes, nice smile. Yes - my teeth are white. No I don't wear a ton of makeup - I have nice skin.  I have full lips, but I didn't pay for that (and who cares if someone does?). My face moves...  LOL! I am outgoing, and smile a LOT.

Pam Anderson is trash! I would say I am much more like Charlize Theron - not that I look like her, just that she's more my speed!

Not always long hair, but I would agree on all else in this post.  I think we can blame high-def for that though.  They kind of look airbrushed right there on the screen!  There IS an obsession with "perfection", but I don't think that's isolated to just the US.

Snap, I was thinking the same thing.

A lot of American men I encountered were into the stick-with-tits look, but I dated non-white guys or foreign guys where possible and whilst I wasn't a very big or tall person, I've always had serious curves.

Now, however, I've got the 40DD with the jelly belly and everything else that goes with being nearly 40 and having had 3 kids in 5 years.

We do. What's up with that? I am very curvy with large ladies, but I look around and so are most of the women I see. I didn't really pay attention to any differences when I was in the UK, but I'm wondering if there is some truth to this.

We do.

I don't.  Nor do most of my friends.

One thing I noticed, at least with Tim, is that he actually LIKES it that I'm not a stick-with-tits. Could be a British thing, could be a Tim specific thing, but even though I've dated in the past, a lot of the men/boys I dated were almost ashamed that I had an ass and a tummy.

Vincent told me once, and I quote, "I don't like skinny girls. I love you."

It's endearing in a way...

I'm not fat by any means. US 8 jeans. 4 or 6 for dresses. But what he MEANT was he doesn't like the annorexic-looking thing... He just doesn't verbalize his feelings well...   :-\\\\
Finally living with my Husband in London after 6 1/2 years together but apart... and loving my life!

IME it's a cultural thing.

I'm Hispanic and I remember when I was 15 and started going out with my first boyfriend, Eric Soliz, I told him that this other boy I'd liked in Confirmation class (where we met) told me I was fat (keep in mind, I wore a US size 4 back then on bottom and an 8 on top)

He was shocked!  He cried, 'What?  What kind of man wants to go out with a woman who looks like a boy?  Eeewww.'

I think that may be universal. While I am thin (size 2/4), I do have hips and a butt. I complain about it, but every man I have dated says the same thing - they don't like boyish bodies or a "stick with tits".

In fact, when the London gentleman and I were talking, I mentioned that I am not Victoria Beckham skinny, and he said in his opinion, too many women try to look like her and he finds her figure very unappealing.

Interesting...

Where?  ;D

When I was that size on bottom I seriously didn't have hips and a butt.

Now I do, but I'm UK size 14 and a 16 on bloated days.  ;)

My sister is sorta like this. She's size 4/6 and it's not like her butt and hips are exactly big, it's just her waist is freakishly small, so everything looks larger in contrast. Seriously, put her in something body-hugging and she's Betty Boop. :)

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

LOL!  I am proportionate. I work out with a trainer and I have a round bottom - we do a lot of squats and lunges.  Makes for a pretty shape.  ;D  I do no cardio as I am afraid I would then look too thin or like Madonna (yuck) or something.

Ah, a waist!  I had one of those once . . .
