Do you send gifts/cards to your family abroad?
« on: May 03, 2009, 01:37:24 PM »
I was shocked to learn that friends of ours do not send any cards or gifts to their family. Simply because they are in the UK and there family is in the states. I don't think thats an excuse. They still receive gifts and I know they make almost double what we do.

Do you guys still send gifts and cards?

I'm a big ebay shopper, just go to ebay.com and purchase and mail directly to that person. Saves a good amount of money.

Also we just got a great deal for mothers day (in the states its next sunday) at restaurant.com. We got gift cards for different restaurants.

I send stuff, too.

You can do this with Amazon.com, too.

Yep...I send gifts & cards. I order gifts online from Amazon.com or other websites...I ordered a HUGE tin of Almond Roca from the maker's website to be delivered to my mom for mothers day. Her mother's day cards I just buy when Mothering Sunday happens and I just mailed them yesterday to her, 1 from DH & I and 1 from DD to her Grammie...and along with it I sent a CD ROM of all the pictures I've taken of DD since Christmas...It didn't cost that much to send either £2.19 if I remember correctly.

Frankly I think your friends excuse is b*llocks!

I send my nieces and nephew gifts and my dad, whose like a child when it comes to his birthday.  :) If I find something I like for my brothers or mom, I send it. I don't normally send cards unless it is moonpig.com. I buy all my gifts on amazon.com or See's candy, for my mom.  ;D

I usually use Amazon, but I always send gifts to family and friends back home.

I send the occasional card as well. (Not like I used to though, I need to send more)

We always send gifts as well. We just shop at websites that allow us to pay with an American card and send it to their address. We try to do gift wrap, but if we can't we just give a heads up to either DB's mum or step-dad (depending on who the gift is for) that it'll need wrapping.

I send cards all the time.  Gifts...not as often, mostly because money has been tight.  Once I get deeper into my summer work schedule, I'll have more funds for surprise gifts to U.S. friends and family.  Actually, I just bought my mom a pretty necklace last weekend for Mother's Day.  Guess I'd better wrap that up and send it off! ;)

Since I stayed over Christmas, I mailed home a few gifts I had picked up there, and I used Amazon to take care of the rest.  I ordered my mom's gifts separate and had them gift wrapped, and everyone else's went into a shipment to my mom and I emailed her instructions of who got what. :)

I don't see any reason why I wouldn't at least continue to order gifts online after I move. Especially if you use US Amazon, the shipping is usually free!

I'm constantly sending gifts and cards! But I'm a gift-giver and I love doing it ... thinking about it, making lists, choosing things, giftwrapping them, etc. I don't think I've used Amazon or eBay more than once or twice as that takes the giftwrapping fun out of my hands!

I generally don't, but that's because our family isn't a gift-giving/card type family.  If I lived in the States, it would be the same.

That said I'll make exceptions for really special occasions- my sister just had a baby so I'll definitely send a card and a small gift.  Oh, and I always send my mum a card for mother's day from the UK, because she gets a huge kick out of getting cards that say Mummy rather than Mom (My mum has always been Mummy to us kids, never ever Mom..but of course that's all you can find in the US!)

I LOVE wrapping presents too, but after my ONE package I sent to my mom was going to cost £40 to mail, I ordered everything else from US websites!

My family is pretty much the same. I'm glad it's not just me cause from the way purpledaffodil phrased her question, I got the distinct impression that something was wrong with that. :)
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"
