If you need more salmon ideas for the future, try fishcakes. I know nothing about cooking and that's something even I've never screwed up.

See that sounds like it would be really hard to do.

It's not, but you want to poach the salmon first. A great way to cook salmon is in foil parcels. You can put anything you like in, onions, dill, lemon juice, carrots, celery, whatever you like. Just stick the parcel in the oven for about 15 minutes at around 200, depending on how thick the filet is.

I buy frozen salmon from Costco. It is wrapped in individual plastic pouches. Sometimes I just defrost them and put them in the micro for about 3 minutes to steam. Then I open them up and flake the salmon into rice with steamed broccoli and some soy sauce.

I cooked my salmon in the foil this time. I have seen people do that. I will cook it less time though next time, I like it a bit less well done.

Everyone makes this stuff sound so easy to do. I wish I did too.

I have never had much luck using foil packets with my salmon.  But I am not sure why.

That sounds SO good!

Easiest salmon in the world:

1. Preheat a pyrex dish in the oven to 180 degrees.
2. Add a bit of olive oil to the hot dish once preheated, so that the fish doesn't stick.
3. Plop your filets in and drizzle with honey.
4. Bake for 20 minutes.

That's it.  Makes lovely, moist, not rare but not too well-done salmon. :D  We just had this for dinner along with grilled asparagus and courgette marinated in olive oil, salt and pepper, and couscous. :)

A tip for becoming a better cook is to think about the flavors that you like and use those to season a fish/meat/vegetable that you like. For example, I love ginger, garlic, soy and green onions together. I can use that for salmon, or chicken, even beef. Also, I like dill, lemon and garlic, also good for fish or veggies.

Stop it!  You're all making me hungry!!

Also, if you have room in your oven, you can place a small pan of water under the pan with the salmon in it to give it a semi-poach.

Oh god, no! Very easy. Marinate the salmon in something if you want (I like lemon juice.) Oven as usual, or poach. Flake, add chopped scallions, mashed potatoes, and whatever other greenery and spices you want, mix together, and fry in patties. Sooooo good!

Honestly, sometimes I start snacking on it even before I fry it.  :-[

I always pan-fry salmon fillets, with a coating of coarsely-crushed black peppercorns.

Oh, thank you all. I need to start experimenting more. Stop being scared about it!

I made really nice teriyaki salmon not long ago.  I just cut the salmon filets against the grain into short strips, marinated them in teriyaki marinade, and sauteed them in a bit of sesame oil  They cooked in about 3 minutes, and were delicious.

I've used this recipe, substituting 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder for the clove of garlic.  Most people I know have all the ingredients on hand too.

I pan sear mine all the time too.. it's great if you don't like it really well done.  At the last minute I throw on some soy sauce mixed with brown sugar and ginger.  (Or you could use a store bought teriyaki.  Works a treat on tuna too!
