Trip is FINALLY almost here!

We decided to spend three days in Dublin and not do the Cork thing....we wanted to, but the day trip by train would have been nearly $300 for the two of us, and I really don't feel comfortable renting a car to drive us down, so we'll be skipping it.  I found out Tim's never been to Cork, either, and since it was more a trip I wanted to do than mom wanted, Tim said we'll go sometime.

Besides, I found so much to do in Dublin!  I'm so excited to check out the writer's museum and I even found a 2 for 1 coupon on their website :D

Original plans were for Tim to meet us in Ireland on his long weekend, but we've changed that up a bit and now we'll be taking the ferry across to Holyhead and spending the time with Tim in England and Wales.

Does anyone have any experience with Stena or Irish Ferries?  We're taking Stena across to Holyhead, but for some reason the Rail & Sail for the trip back to Dublin was cheaper going via Irish Ferries.

Belfast is a great city but while public transport within the city is pretty good, getting out of the city will probably require a rental car. Giant's Causeway and the north coast of Ireland are fantastic.

That's not to say that Dublin and environs aren't great, too. Just wanted to give you input on the north.

That said, Donegal is my favorite place in Ireland but probably not doable in 3 days.

We took public transport from Belfast to Carrickfergus Castle in March 09.  5 quid.  All the 'research' i had done online told me we'd need to hire a cab.

The Tourist Information Office in Belfast was instrumental in helping us figure all this out!

I'd be heading for Trinity College if I were taking a holiday in Dublin.
