Be legal! whats the problem?

The law is very clear about people who are not allowed to enter the UK and it doesnt have anything to do with romance or anything else else like that, get over it.

As a foreigner who hopes to emigrate from the US to the UK, I'd love to see the show.  Anyone know if I can watch online, purchase DVD or if it will air on BBC America in the coming season?

Thanks.

Seriously, it makes me afraid just to walk around in the event that I have to prove that I'm legal. I took my kids to Brighton last summer on National Express and we had to change buses at Victoria Station in London. We saw the UKBA out in full force checking passports. Although I was legally in the country as a visitor and my kids are British, they made me very nervous and I can remember grabbing my kids so we could go in the opposite direction because they were being that intimidating.

This is exactly why I carry my passport whenever I go anywhere. Not the best thing I know since if it gets lost or stolen, but it's worth the peace of mind for me.

They watch the Eurolines buses that come in from the continent. If you got off an internal UK service I don't think you would have been stopped.

That may be why border patrol was there, but they were ripping through the lounge area where the kids and I were headed to wait for our internal bus and from my viewpoint, I didn't see them distinguishing between those who may have been foreigners and those who weren't. It really was a scary thing to witness and in my then naivete not knowing why they were doing that, it caused me to avoid the scene at all costs because it was distressing, even though I absolutely had nothing to hide. (which I now realize would have made me look suspect!)

You don't have to carry your passport on you.  A) They only stop people who 'look suspicious' (racial profiling, anyone?); B) If you sound confident about your status and your facts, they'll likely not suspect you; C) All it takes is a phone call to confirm your status.  Carrying your passport with you is a bit silly, as the risks are far too great.

To me, watching the show just makes me laugh...it's not scary at all if you're a legitimate entrant with legitimate reasons.  I've not seen one episode where they've turned someone away that actually sounds 100% legitimate.  Everyone I've seen rejected has been quite rightly so...and sometimes they're quite generous with people they let in - some have very tenuous circumstances and still get stamped through - quite luckily.

Seriously?!

Ours stay in a fireproof box unless we actually need them to travel.

Having been mugged more than once, it's an almighty PITA without losing a passport into the bargain.

I NEVER carry either passport with me. They are way too valuable to take a chance on loosing or to be stolen. They stay in a fireproof box until needed to travel. I do however have various other ID with me at all times. Such as my UK driving license,US and UK nursing licenses. Etc.

I saw someone stopped in Waterloo Station last week.  He was obviously a refugee as he had a Home Office issued travel document.  Several of my clients have been stopped, in airports or train stations.  None of them were white.

I saw a few white people (I have no idea what nationality) being stopped at the Victoria bus last August and I think that's why I chose to turn around and head the other way.

Since I don't have any other sort of ID here I carry mine. As I've said, not the best thing but its all I've got. And it's been drilled into my head so much in the States that you ALWAYS carry some sort of ID with you at ALL times.
