Getting FAFSA to UK school
« on: May 07, 2009, 05:33:19 PM »
Hello,

I have a question about getting my FAFSA processed by my UK school. I have just accepted an unconditional place for postgrad study at the Edinburgh College of Art. I applied for my FAFSA in March and listed my school on the application (the FAFSA did list my school and had a school code and everything). I assumed the info would be sent electronically to my school but it is now May and I haven't heard anything on that front. Does anybody know if the government does in fact send the SAR or do I need to get a hard copy and mail it to my UK school? I know that by this time of the year if I was going to a US school I would already know about my financial aid so I hope I'm not too late!

Thanks!!

It depends on the school.  Check with the uni to find out who you should contact there and what you need to do.  For my uni (Glasgow), I need to send them a copy of my SAR and I need to go and sign the checks every few months, but someone within the registry takes care of the rest.

I got my SAR and used it to apply for Stafford and PLUS loans, and then sent the promissory notes and the SAR to my university (Newcastle.) I had to have the DoE people send me the 8-page SAR on yellow paper, it's the only one my uni would accept.

Hope that helps!

The SAR cannot be sent electronically outside of the US. Or at least it couldn't when my boyfriend applied 2 years ago.
It needs to be physically sent to the university. Which you can do yourself if you've received the SAR

In my DB's case he had recieved the SAR but didn't realise what it was... ??? until I started nagging him  ;) then he'd lost it and had to request another copy which he then sent to his uni. So check to see if you've already had your SAR.

I'm 99% positive that it can't be sent electronically outside of the US even if there's a school code for the UK school in the FASFA system.

Hi, it looks like you'll have to send a copy of your full SAR. See here for details: http://www.eca.ac.uk/cms_assets/Documents-Study/Stafford%20Loans%20Application%20Guide.pdf.

No sweat.

What's your medium, by the way? My background is in the arts and I'm starting my postgrad studies in London this fall. Should be fun to be at ECA!

Good luck!
