Anyone study at Birmingham or Brunel?
« on: May 11, 2009, 03:11:59 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm going to do my MBA either Birmingham B-school in Birmingham or Brunel B-School at the edge of London from this fall.  Based on the school ranking and name value, most of people I have asked so far suggest to take Birmingham. And, I do think that's reasonable choice.  But, I still can't make my mind... My background is very unique for an MBA student; I am a former actor and work in a theatre right now.  Naturally, I'm hoping to work in London's theatre community after my study.  So, Brunel's being close to London may allow me to go theatres & meet people in the industry to keep myself current without spending hours of travel.  And, I like being in a small class. Then, again, I start thinking about the Birmingham's ranking & reputation.  Really, I'm circling the same questions over and over again.  I wish I could get into London B-School, but I am not smart enough. So...

If anyone studying (or studied) at either of B-schools, could you please give me your insights and share your experience?  Any information or thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks.

L

Do a search on 'Brunel' in this forum, and you will find my thoughts.  If you search 'Uxbridge' you will also find mine and other's thoughts on living there.

Hi Vicky,

Thanks for your post.  I did search and got a kind of idea about Uxbridge.  But, what do you think about the Brunel's education quality and/or system?  If the school were located in nicer area, would you recommend it?

I studied politics there 12 years ago, so possibly not the best judge. But no, I think I'd opt for Birmingham.

If you're traveling by train from Birmingham New Street to London Euston, you'd be looking at around 1 1/2 hours each way...so 'hours of travel' for a return trip, but not hours to get there...
