I really want to go see this...but by the time I get somewhere where I trust someone to watch the munchkin it will be November, and I probably can find it on DVD by then, but it's just not the same.  :\\\'(

Can the hubby watch the munchkin while you go with a friend?
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

He said he would...but I'd need a friend to go, therein lies another problem...

Saw this today, and loved it too! Bones was a little over the top, methinks, but otherwise great. Biggest surprise was Kirk - I totally thought he was gonna be a disappointment and he was great! And can I get Zachary Quinto delivered to my house, please?

NOOO he's mine!   :D ;)

I agree with you about Kirk.  The guy -- Chris Pine-- had just the right swagger and command, but was subtle too.

Was it just me, or was the old Spock talking to the young Spock downright surreal?
On s'envolera du même quai
Les yeux dans les mêmes reflets,
Pour cette vie et celle d'après
Tu seras mon unique projet.

Je t'aimais, je t'aime, et je t'aimerai.

There was definitely none of the smarm I expected out of Pine's performance. If anything, I thought the new Spock had more eye-rolling moments than Kirk.

The new Spock/old Spock was awesome. :)

I was reading above about the alternate universe part and am worried I might have missed that part.  Would I be correct in assuming this took place on the ice planet where they found Scotty?

Yes, that's where Old Spock explained what was going on.  I found that whole discussion a bit hard to keep track of, but once things started exploding again I forgot about it (hahaha).

{SPOILER ALERT with a side dish of mild rant}

My only complaint about the movie was how quickly Kirk went from being a trainee to getting command of the Enterprise.  I understand that it had to happen the way it happened so the characters would all be in place on the Enterprise at the end of the movie, but the idea that a guy who just graduated from training would wind up in command of a ship within weeks is farfetched.

When referring to what's farfetched, the technicalities of field promotion in Star Fleet wither into gray pallor beside Uhura's uniform.  It's impossibly slinky and bizarrely out-of-place on the bridge of a military vessel.  But hey, who's complaining?

Hahahaha!  Somehow Uhura's uniform didn't bother me at all.   ;D

Bones' performance was horrible.  I loved the film, but he almost ruined it for me.

I absolutely love Zach Quinto as Spock.  I love the new Kirk.
