Calvin Jacob Cross was born June 24th at 5.37 p.m. (UK time), weighing 7 lbs. 13 oz.
I was admitted to hospital for induction at 10am on the 24th. At approximately 11.20am, i was given prostaglandin gel, and by about 2pm, i was having regular contractions. My mid-wife was attending an emergency C-section and came back to me about 2.45pm, but that time i was inhaling entonox (gas & air) like it was regular air to me! at 3p.m., i was 8 cm and wanting an epidual (once the anesthesiologist came in and accessed me, it was mutually decided that i could not be able to be still long enough for it to be inserted, so I opted for an injection of pethidine.)
The total time for labour was 2 hours and 37 minutes..(which surprised me when i found out!) I did not need an episiotomy and the midwife said i only had a slight graze, (no real tearing). I was released from hospital early friday afternoon.
Although it was the most painful experience I have ever known, it was the single most rewarding one in my life ever.
And both Sean and I could not be happier or more in love with our new son
