Any Self-Employed People Here?

As I mentioned in another post, I am self employed in the US.  I do web site design and have my own web site which is my primary source of income.

I am studying to become A+ certified to fix computers as well as learning how to program software.

I am a writer and have 2 novels on the table to finish.

How many other former US people who live in the UK are self employed on this board? 

What is your experience like doing business there and what kinds of formalities did you have to complete?

Do you have to pay both US and UK taxes on your business?

What kinds of novels do you write?

One of my novels is a family drama about 3 generations who see the same events in different ways and how it impacted their view of life.

The other novel is sort of a mystical sci-fi drama about a family who lives on the outskirts of town and practices the dark arts while being outcasted by the people of the nearby town who really don't know much about them until one of the brave townspeople dares to befriend one of the girls and become a part of the secret world while he tries to protect them from danger.

Sounds interesting!  I've written two romances and am at work on my third...while editing my second to prepare it for submission... ...and redecorating...and planning a move...and being pregnant...

But I'm doing my best!

I'm writing too!  Well, first my Phd which will result in a book (it's about an artist), but I'm also working on a historical mystery and an Irish drama. They are very much works in progress...slow works in progress! 

SAF, are you published yet?

No, but I did pretty well in that national contest, so that was encouraging.  I'm concentrating now on my second book, and writing the third..trying something different with that one!

Wow! That's great.  My husband thinks I should do romance novels as he sees them all over the place and us female types eat them up

Hi Mars

My main web site is at http://www.informingyou.com.   I think of it as a fun research site with stories, essays, games, and a big mall.

I have designed other web sites, but usually work as a consultant to determine their particular web site needs, search engine placement, and making money on the web.  This isn't really something I advertise, but basically word of mouth.

Mytigodess, I was freelancing web sites when I moved across and was able to work it with US business (my clients) to have them deposit money into my US account and I withdrew UK pounds here out of the ATM. That was while I was visiting and checking out the area.

Yup, it was right for me. And so was he.

So I married and moved across, to join my husband in his business. We now run a Limited Company, and although it's like being self-employed, we're technically employed by our own company.

I find this country is very good about small businesses. And what better way to make a living than to make money on your "hobby"?
