Hello All,

I am new to the site, but not so new to the UK.  I have lived here in Leeds for about 8 months attending the University for my Master's Degree.  Needless to say I have had little time to travel or socialise based on this insane system of higher education.  Don't get me wrong I can tell you exactly how many steps it is to my local pub.   ;D  Although I have been here a few months and met some very lovely people I still feel that I am somehow missing out on the UK.  I joined this site for a bit of advice on places I must see before returning home, hopefully I will get a job and won't have too, and to get in touch with other American's to hear about their experiences here.

Look forward to chatting,
Aubrey
 ;)

Hi Aubrey, welcome.

Take a look at some of the posts in Travel and Transport for start on ideas for things to see/do. But, being in Leeds you are very close to the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, Peak District so there's quite a lot of nice scenery near you!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

So, what does 'double-glazed' mean in America?

My guess would be it's a reference to doughnuts?  ???

That's a shame.  I was rather hoping it might refer to an advanced state of inebriation ... ;)

Howard,

To be sure a few double glazed donuts makes a night at the pub seem like a Sunday stroll.  There is enough sugar in one square inch to shock even poor George Best into sobriety.   :P  Of course as a lady I would never each such filth.  HaHa
