well i had no idea that they had to fly in cargo.......so thats definately out of the question.
steff
Steffunny, it's a separate section of cargo that is actually served with the same air pressurisation and temperature control as the the cabin where the humans travel.
It is a widely believed myth that animals travelling in "cargo" are actually thrown in with the suitcases, left to freeze and gag for air in the high altitudes!!
Nothing could be further from the truth. Trust me.
It turns out that the animal section of the plane's hold is a different compartment completely dedicated to the safety of live cargo.
The airlines take their live animals very, very seriously. As mentioned, the compartment is fed with the cabin air, pressurized and climate controlled just like our part of the plane. It is also kept dark, apparently. So that animals can stay calmer. NO sedatives are allowed but most animals seem to do just fine.
My very shy, nervous cat who doesn't let me disappear to the bathroom for more than one minute without coming to find me, went through a ten hour flight and was perfectly fine. The staff at the animal reception centre even said he had been exceptionally sweet and affectionate to deal with after his journey. After about an hour being home, he was his usuall self, playing and happy.
They deal with the plane flight pretty well it would seem. The pet hold section is dark and comfortable and any physically healthy animal will come to no harm. Its also a quicker time to be separated from you and caged up for an arduous journey than if you take an ocean trip.
Eidt, well my reply field keeps jumping about and I can't type -- any typos are down to some tech difficulty.
