Things going "off" quicker?

Fruit and veg is another story though. I personally think it's where you buy it from. I find that Tesco and Asda fruit and veg goes off almost immediately. I've had sweet potatoes from Tesco turn to mush in a couple of days. When I get it from a market or from Waitrose I don't seem to have that problem.

Ah, if only we could afford Waitrose.  I dream of shopping there.  For now until I can start work again, it's Tesco for us!  (I'm glad to know stuff lasts longer from there though.  Someday...)

I always put my eggs in the refrigerator just in case. I know it is not common practice here and is even frowned upon as being very American

People don't refrigerate eggs over there??  Oh my.  I never knew that was an American thing.

Eggs aren't refrigerated in the shops but it is pretty standard to store them in the fridge at home - I've never met anyone who doesn't.  I'd disagree that storing eggs in the fridge is "frowned upon as being very American" or is even unusual.  Most fridges on the market come with special egg holders built in and I'd suspect most British people have never given a thought as to what Americans do with their eggs - those of us here married to Americans being obvious exceptions.

I don't store eggs in the fridge.  There is really no need if you have anormal temperature kitchen.

Neither did my housemate and I. I would have put them in the fridge, but we had no room. I also ate them fairly quickly, so it didn't bother me.

I don't think anyone I know stores eggs in the fridge, although the shelf does have the egg thing in it.

I'll admit I didn't do in-depth research into the numbers - I guess it depends who you know (and something to do with cramped London/rental living maybe?)

I'll stand by my point that putting eggs in the fridge is neither unusual nor seen as weirdly "American" though.

After knocking three eggs off the counter behind the fridge the other day I wish I had them in the fridge.

I think that some people do and some don't, that is all.  I don't, my mother does. Both from London, both with the same size fridge.

Yeah, I think it's just whatever floats your boat.  I've noticed the same conflict with peanut butter.  I don't refrigerate mine (too hard to spread!) but my father does, so when I lived at home, we had silly stubborn battles about where to put the PB.  Silly, silly stuff.
