You wouldn't be trying to find out by surfing the net I hope.  It's just too far "rimwards-by-widdershins" for any sort of body of knowledge to have built up.

IMHO among the leading practitioners in the area is Andrew Tingley at Kingsley Napsley.  http://www.kingsleynapley.co.uk/profiles/atingley  And you might arrange a consultation with him or one of his staff.  KN is one of the firms with privileged access, so if they need a reading, they can get it quickly.

Thank you for your help, but I don't know what "rimwards-by-widdershins", "privileged access" and "a reading" is. I do know my boss won't want to pay lots for a consultant when she could save money and just hire someone to replace me. I'm really just looking for information on whether I am able to work for an American company while on a Tier 4 visa, and how I would go about that. So yes, I'm surfing the net.

You can do 20 hours per week work (full time in term time).  I see no reason why that can't be for a US employer.  The tax aspects can't be answered on this section of the board, but I have certainly not seen any requirement to pay tax in the UK.

I would say that you would need to submit a UK tax return each year, which would disclose the money you are paid and the tax you pay in the US (if you would prefer to do that), and that this would satisfy the Home Office on renewal, along with evidence in the form of a letter from your employer that you are only working the proscribed hours and what your hourly rate is.

If you don't find anything on the net, you can always ask the UKBA designate at your school.  That would be free, but most likely would not include tax info.

Thank you for your help, but I don't know what "rimwards-by-widdershins" [means]

Widdershins means counter-clockwise - it's traditionally bad luck to circle a church in this direction - but the phrase as a whole, I think, means Garry's a Discworld fan.   ;)

That was my thought too!
On s'envolera du même quai
Les yeux dans les mêmes reflets,
Pour cette vie et celle d'après
Tu seras mon unique projet.

Je t'aimais, je t'aime, et je t'aimerai.
