Good idea......I will call them.  I was thinking about e-mailing them, but it can take days to receive a response back using this method.
My mind is going top speed at 100 mph, and I just could not think about that easy, simple, basic phone call.  I certainly need level headed suggestions right now.  With the mountain of information that one has to take in when transporting a pet (especially in the beginning), this is can be one critical oversight.

I did see on Exjerseygirls photos of the required documentation (that she so kindly provided) that the vaccine that her cat was given is the Merial Purevax, but the paperwork did not say live or killed, inactive.  Not sure what types of this vaccine are manufactured.  I have done internet searches to see if different types of this vaccine are made, and I have only been able to find the live version.  However my nerves will be on edge until I am 100% sure

I will keep you posted, and thank you

Mine was Merial Purevax but INACTIVE.

Vet and I both double checked on that, as it is part of the instructions in the mountain of all this information.

CALL Defra. E-mailing is a waste of time. Make a call, you'll get a live person to whom you can fully have a back-and-forth about what you need to know. The one I spoke to completely put my mind at rest with all the information I needed to verify. Seemed to be not just some kind of courtesy phone/switchboard bot, but a person fully knowledgeable in Defra's policies -- you will get full and accurate answers from the horse's mouth, is what I'm trying to say.

WHAT A RELIEF...........

The vaccine that my cats were given was the live, however it is the Recombinant type which is new technology which may have just been approved for use.  The DEFRA website states inactivated OR recombinant.  I also called DEFRA directly, and they are VERY nice
My confusion and stress came as a result of me printing the EC998/2003 form, and at the botton it states that animals must have an inactivated vaccine.  I should get a copy of an updated form

I can now breath easier

Great news!  ;D To suggest that I was anything short of full blown crazy with regard to the entire cat relocation process would be a massive understatement.  The furbags are totally worth it, but it made the rest of the move feel like a piece of cake.

It was certainly a scare until I was able to talk to the right people.  This misunderstanding happend at 9:30 at night when I noticed inactive on the EC998 form, and that the rabies certificate that I have for the cats says that the vaccine is live.  It was a nervous time for me until I was able to make calls the next morning.
The Marial Purevax is a 2 two part vaccine that is mixed together before injected into the animal.  One of the parts is live (thus my confusion, and my vets paperwork error).  When the two parts are mixed together it becomes recombinant.  I am not sure about the complete meaning of this (the scientific explaination goes above me).  I have spoken with the USDA, DEFRA, and I even called the manufacturer (Marial), and they all said that this vaccine is approved throughout the European Union.
The USDA did say that I have to take the word "live" off the paperwork.  Even though the vaccine is approved, they cannot sign it off until this word has been removed.  My own vet can easily make this correction.
Yes........ these creatures are worth it, and they are the only reason why I am still here in the states.  My husband has been in the Cambridge area since April due to a 5 year work assignment.  My son and I would have left when this last school year finished up if it was not for the animals.  We did have a house to sell (sold now, thank goodness), but I could have left it into the hands of our real estate agent and I could have taken care of unfinished business via phone, mail, fax, computer.
We would have had a huge gap in our little family unit if the pets could not have joined us.  My husband probably would not have accepted the assignment if we had to leave them behind.
The rest of the moving process is indeed a piece of cake compared to what you go through with the animals
As always, you all have been a great help.....Thank you
