Hey everyone,
My son and I will be visiting the US this summer for 5 weeks, and I'd like to get travel insurance. How does medical insurance work when we're there - I mean, if he gets in an accident (God forbid) when I'm not with him, can say, my parents take him to the hospital and get coverage? Or do I have to be with him? Just wondering how it all works...

I have had 2 incidents with taking my toddler to the US when we have had to use my health insurance, the last time was when we went to Florida, due to leave on Saturday, and on Thursday he came down with the chicken pox!! So we phoned the emergency number for Direct Line, and they told us what we were entitled to. So we were able to claim back for a new flight as we weren't able to fly home on our regular date, they covered any hospital/doctor costs, and the hotel for the extra week we had to stay, they also covered our rental car, and a food allowance each day. They were fantastic and really helped us out. Also, we got the money quite quickly after we filed the claim. We were really impressed with Direct Line. Very helpful.
