Ooooh.  I could go on this one all day!

But one my friend Suzanne and I use all the time when we get advice we don't like, but know is right is from "When Harry Met Sally":

Carrie Fisher's character, everytime some one tells her that her married lover is never going to leave his wife replies:  "You're right, you're right, I know you're right."

We have have reduced it down to YRYRIKYR in emails!   :)

DH and I have used that line similarly for years!  Hee!

Although we usually add the "... He's never going to leave her." ;D

Mine is from WHMS as well :D

Harry: Can't a man say a woman's attractive without it being a come-on? Alright, alright, let's just say, just for the sake of argument, that it was a come-on; what do you want me to do about it? I take it back, okay, I take it back.
Sally: You can't take it back.
Harry: Why not?
Sally: It's *already* out there!
Harry: Oh geez, what are we supposed to do? Call the cops. It's already out there.
Sally: *Just* let it lie, *okay*?
Harry: Great! Let it lie, that's my policy. That's what I always say, "Let it lie." Wanna spend the night in a motel? See what I did? I didn't let it lie.
Sally: Harry.
Harry: I said I would and then I didn't.
Sally: Harry.
Harry: I went the other way.
Sally: Harry!
Harry: What?
Sally: We are just going to be friends, okay?
Harry: Great, friends. It's the best thing. You realize of course that we could never be friends.
Sally: Why not?
Harry: What I'm saying - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape, or form - is that men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.
Sally: That's not true. I have a number of men friends and there is no sex involved.
Harry: No you don't.
Sally: Yes I do.
Harry: No you don't.
Sally: Yes I do.
Harry: You only think you do.
Sally: You're saying I'm having sex with these men without my knowledge?
Harry: No what I'm saying is they all want to have sex with you.
Sally: They do not!
Harry: Do too.
Sally: They do not!
Harry: Do too.
Sally: How do you know?
Harry: Because no man can be friends with a woman that he finds attractive. He always wants to have sex with her.
Sally: So you're saying a man *can* be friends with a woman he finds unattractive?
Harry: No, you pretty much wanna nail them, too.
Sally: What if they don't wanna have sex with you?
Harry: Doesn't matter, because the sex part is already out there, so the friendship is ultimately doomed and that is the end of the story.
Sally: Well, I guess we're not going to be friends then.
Harry: I guess not.
Sally: That's too bad. You were the only person I knew in New York.

"Artax, don't let the sadness overcome you!"  From The Neverending Story.  A very funny thing to say to someone who's down but not really that down. :)

I've been reluctant to post here as I constantly use lines from films and tv, so for me it is VERY hard to choose!

When Harry Met Sally - definitely!
"Because of God."

My family has loads... most from Python films or Flying Circus, and most used when we get our communications confused, such as:

"I do wish you'd listen, Wymer. It's perfectly simple." (from Meaning of Life)
"Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our three weapons are fear, and surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our four...no...  I'll come in again." (Flying Circus, Spanish Inquisition)
"I told you once." (Flying Circus, Argument Sketch)

and loads of others.

On the Lord of the Rings extended versions, on the commentary track, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan are hilarious, and coined another favorite quote:

"That's the way life is sometimes; you're just going about your business and someone throws away your lembas bread."
- Billy Boyd

(And I KNEW I had read a similar thread and posted that before!!  There's another thread here:  http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=20452.0 - all quotes, not just movies)

From Return to Me:

Megan: Whatever you do, don't shave your legs.
Grace: Why?
Megan: Well, then you definitely won't let it go too far.
Grace: Megan! It's a *first* date!
Megan: Yeah, well, I married a first date, missy, and you know how it is. You're out with a guy, you find him attractive, and suddenly everything he says sounds brilliant. Hairy legs are your only link to reality.
Grace: I think you should needle-point that on a pillow.
Megan: Well, I just might! It kept me a virgin until... y'know, *whenever*.

I use that one ALL THE TIME! I think it's "Shock me, shock me, shock me with that deviant behaviour." though. Man that quote covers so many situations so beautifully.

Also "Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead." From Pulp Fiction and "I never wear shoes, cause they make me fall down." from the Birdcage.

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

From Raising Arizona:

"Son, you got a panty on your head."

"Do these balloons blow up into funny shapes at all?"
"Well, no.  Unless round is funny."

"I lost my job today."
"Oh, Hi; you're young and you've got your health.  What do you want with a job?"

I love "Raising Arizona!"

One of my favourite quotes is when he gets his first paycheck, and the payroll clerk says:

"The government sure do take a bite, don't she?"

He's supposed to be Turkish. Some say his father was German. Nobody ever believed he was real. Nobody ever knew him or saw anybody that ever worked directly for him. But to hear Kobayashi tell it, anybody could have worked for Soze. You never knew, that was his power. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
