Where do I report Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit
« on: June 11, 2009, 09:23:11 PM »
Last year I filled out a 1040 and a 2555 with little trouble.

For 2008, in addition to my piddly amount of Earned Income I've got Maternity Allowance, Child Benefit, and Child Tax Credit.

Would all three of these go on line 21 Other Income of the 1040?

Yes.

They are also general limitation foreign income for the 1116.  Why are you filing an 1116?  Would you not make more money (i.e. get a good refund) by claiming the refundable child credit and revoking the foreign earned income exclusion?

Just as a note for anyone else in this situation (low UK earnings with UK Child Benefit and UK Child Tax Credit).

I ended up filing the 1040 and 2555 again this year.  The 1116 didn't work in my favor.
