I have just called the 0845 606 2030 number. Apart from the stupid and annoying voice recognition telephone system, which doesnt understand a perfectly clear English accent, the resources from that call centre are being deverted to the media induced swine flu pandemic panic. I spoke to a nice chap called ollie, who then told me that my wife can have a card but will have to make a postal application including proof that she has the right to stay here, including a copy of her "visa or proof that she lives here or something."
He checked but wasnt able to do it over the telephone.

Do remember that they expire!  I hadn't realised and was nearly caught out without one last year.

I just called and they said form from the post office and copy of your visa page in your passport. The woman I spoke to seemed shocked that I found the website so difficult to use. ;)

Mine arrived today, and we only mailed the form and photocopy about a week and a half ago.  Efficient service, once you figure out what the heck you're supposed to do.

Wow! I applied on 7th July and I still haven't heard anything. I sent in the postal app with a copy of my passport & ILR visa and covering letter. Think I'll be ringing them today! DW got hers days after I applied on her behalf online.
