There is a lady here at work who sometimes takes her dogs "to the office" and leaves themin the car the whole day. At least it has not happened when the weather has been warm in the past month but I did see it last not too long ago, like May. Very wrong, but at least it was cool out. :-[

Can you report her anonymously the next time she does it?

This morning the representitve for the RSPCA was on BBC Breakfast and he asked that if anyone sees an animal locked in a car to report it to them or to the police. He also said that an animal should not be locked in the car in ANY type of weather.

She is buddies with the security guard and he won't rat on her.  They even wave to each other when she takes him out for their afternoon "walk" from the car around the lot.  Sickening.  I'm worried she will definitely know it is me. You see, we already don't get along and are not the best of friends (ha, can you blame me ! :P

I agree.

Besides that, it doesn't really have to be all that warm OUTSIDE for the inside of a car to become dangerously hot, even with the windows cracked open a bit...

Forget security and call the police or RSPCA.

Update:  I made an obnoxious joke rather loudly in the break room last week at work with everyone there (I didn't care if it was rude or not) .  I said, "Jesus. it is hotter than a dog locked in a car in here!"  I was quite surprised a lot of the secretaries and PAs were equally loud and chimed in and said "yes, it's so hot I'd hate to be locked in a small space on a day like this."  They knew what I meant. I think she got the hint.  Suffice, we haven't seen her bring the dog  in the car since.

Two weeks ago in the Leicester Mercury there was an article about a police officer near here (can't remember the exact jurisdiction) that left his police dog in his patrol car when he went into the POLICE STATION. He said he was just going in for a minute, but got distracted. Some time later he went out and the dog had died. The article of course ended with the fact that it costs nearly £10,000 to train a dog. But the real problem is that the animal suffered and died alone on the hottest day of the year.

At the vet I worked at in Virginia, one of our patients was a survivor of this same thing. He and his sister (Saint Bernards) were left in the Walmart parking lot - they were three months old. Concerned citizens called the police and SPCA, who busted in the window. The sister dog died, and the brother dog was "stunted" for lack of a better word. He was taken away from the owner, and adopted out to one of our clients. He didn't grow to his full size, and was a bit mentally handicapped his whole life because of the damage suffered by his body temperature rising so high.

It makes me so mad. There's just no reason for it. I've run errands with my dog, but only on really really cold days. Just think about a time you've been out, and you get somewhere early and cut off the car and have to wait. Your body heat in a small environment is trapped. That in combination with the sun makes the temperature rise. It's just so easy to prevent...

Okay, sorry about the rant. It's just a really sore subject for me.

Hokie97---we talked about this earlier in the thread. It happened in Nottingham and it was actually 2 dogs not just one:
This is sickening: http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/homenews/Police-dogs-die-car-heatwave/article-1128150-detail/article.html

The next time I see a dog locked in a car I'm calling the RSPCA and the police.

Sorry about that. I must've overlooked that post when I was reading.
