Finding a BIG hotel room in London
« on: June 23, 2009, 08:53:45 PM »
OK - so we're planning on visiting London for a few days this summer with the kiddies, but when we went to find a hotel, we couldn't!  All we have found are hotel rooms with a king size bed or 2 single beds.  We did find one with a king and a fold-out sofa, but we've got 5 kids!  I'm not even sure they'd let us all stay in the same room!  So, does anyone know of a decent hotel in London with rooms that we'd fit in?  Any help is much appreciated.  :)

I'm not sure if you'll find one big enough for all of you, but if it exists it'll be called a "family room." So try Googling that.

I don't know about London, but here in Manchester you can rent like an executive flat. Try googling executive flats.

If you're visiting for a week or longer you may want to consider looking for a holiday flat (self-catering) instead of a hotel room.  I know they're more self-sufficient, but it would allow you to stay as a family (and in more of a family environment) while you're in London and potentially cost you less than having multiple hotel rooms...  My in-laws usually rent one when they go on holiday (mind you they don't go to London anymore since my SIL moved back up north), but when they go away thats what they prefer, so that they can bring the dogs...   ;)

Just a thought or something to look into.  I'm sorry I don't have any booking site recommendations as we've never tried it for London, but I'm sure if you did a google search or check Visit Britain (it has an accommodation checker) or Enjoy England you'd be able to come up with something more useful.

Good luck!

Executive?  That sounds expensive!

I've had a quick search for you and this is what I found.  Your best bet would probably be to get a serviced apartment.  You will most likely require a 3 bedroom apartment.  I found a couple on www.refreshaccommodation.com, such as the Kensington Court Serviced Apts which sleeps 7/8 and also the Grand Plaza Apt in Bayswater that sleeps 6 but extra beds are available at £20/night.  There is also 43 - 45 Gower St Apts in Bloomsbury.  Of course I have no idea what your budget is so these might not be suitable at all.
The other website you might want to try is www.hoteldoorman.com/london-hotel-by-family.htm
Have you tried Holiday Inn or any of the hotels in that group?  It is unlikely that any hotel will be able to accommodate a family of 7 in one room but have you thought of adjoining rooms?
Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for all the suggestions!  I've checked into the apartments, and I think that just may work for us.  Thanks for the help.

I was just reading the travel section of the Irish Times and someone asked this exact question. Here are the suggestions given:

www.sleeps5.com
www.hostelworld.com
www.citybaseapartments.com
www.chevalgroup.com
www.holiday-rentals.com

It also mentions that the London School of Economics rents student accommodation to visitors during the summer. The website is www.lsevacations.co.uk.

Hope that helps!
