Opinions about NHS in Sicko?
« on: June 24, 2009, 07:14:22 PM »
For those of you have watched Michael Moore's documentary on healthcare, Sicko, do you agree or disagree with the portrayal of the NHS? I have no experience with the system, so I would appreciate any feedback.

I think he put it in a more positive light than most people would see it.

Like everything the NHS has both positives and negatives and, like most Moore films, he twists the facts to prove his points, sometimes less than others.

I think this is a shame because it is such an important topic.

What things were put in a more positive light and what was skimmed over because its a negative? Just asking for specifics :)

Overall I agreed with it, yes he brushed over the bad stuff but that is far outweighed by the good things about it. And DW told me that the stuff on the US was true which really scared me.
In fact it's possibly the main reason why we might not end up moving to the US.

Eh, I've only been here for a year. But, overall, I thought the film summed up my experiences in both America and the UK. For what's it worth, I've never waited any longer to see my regular doctor or a specialist here than I ever had to wait in the US. My medications are SOOOOO much cheaper here (I can't stress that enough!) and since I didn't have insurance for much of the time I lived in the US, I am FAR better off here than I was there. But that's just one perspective, others might have a different one.
