Not everyone shares that opinion. I know people will say what they want to say. Freedom of speech and all that. But there's a big difference between what you "can" say and what you "should" say. This isn't really the time for accusations and hatred. It's really not.  :-\\\\

I have no 'hatred' for the man whatsoever but my opinion of him changed due to the numerous accusations made by some of the children he surrounded himself with. The fact that i liked his music doesn't excuse his 'alleged' behaviour. i am indifferent to his death so i will avoid any further postings on the subject as i have no wish to piss off those that are not. Now he's died some people seem to have selective memories of him.

It's a tough tightrope to walk, though.  Yes, it's sad he died, but why does that automatically mean we have to speak kindly about him?  I don't understand why, for example, three days ago it was acceptable to poke fun at his penchant for plastic surgery, but now it's considered in poor taste?

It just seems a bit confusing to me, that's all. :-\\\\

Precisely....

When bad press probably lead to his downfall in the first place and now they are hailing him for being a great man....odd to me  :-\\\\  too little too late obviously..

But then three days ago, nobody was going around saying, "I'm not a fan of Michael Jackson's." Now everyone seems to feel the need to keep stressing that.

I don't know. If someone dies, I think you should speak kindly about them. At least for a time when the feelings are still raw. I just think how awful it would be to be, for instance, Janet Jackson and to turn on the computer and see vile and hateful jokes about your recently deceased brother.

Bluntly: Everyone like MJs music or at least some of it..but they don't want to scream out they are is fan as they are being cautious due the CM charges...otherwise they were labelled a peado lover...

People loved the music and were unsure of the man....

I just think how awful it would be to be, for instance, Janet Jackson and to turn on the computer and see vile and hateful jokes about your recently deceased brother.

Probably just as upsetting as watching your brother line himself up for CM charges and still surrounding himself with children...

Or watching him decay infront of the public but obviously not doing enough to help him...

But as his sister..I am sure she was aware that he was unwell..and probably her and her family should be kicking themselves with guilt about not looking after him the first place...and I emphasise **should**

His life was all about the media..he even went out of his way on occassions to make sure that his name was always in the papers...unfortunatly it seems his own doing killed him in the end..

And yes..it is sad that a man who was only in his 50's has died..and that at one point in his life he was hailed the king of pop...but death does not automatically make you exempt from what you have previously done in your life..Yes highlight the great successes of the man..but lets not make the man a simple star..there were far more complexities and dark sides that we are all aware of..that have happened and for some still living that do exisit..

I have family members and work colleagues that are all cracking jokes..and some make me chuckle..but the jokes that are offending me now are the ones that are very graphically detailing child abuse...thats whats bothering me now..and I am sure that victims of such crimes are not as lovely dovey at MJ'S career as some others seem to be..and probably just as disgusted at him being hailed a **hero**

I don't think you're right at all.

Some people don't like his music. And for those of us who do, I really doubt we're worried about being labeled "paedo lovers."

Where do you get these ideas??

No, I understand what you're saying.  And to an extent I agree.  I just think it's all gone a bit overboard, that's all.

As for everyone suddenly announcing their dislike of him, well, I think it's part of human nature.  I know I was happy to let everyone know how little I was interested in the Twilight series when it seemed like everyone on Earth was obsessed.  Just as I know people who are proud to announce they've never watched an episode of American Idol.  It's not a positive aspect, but it's there nonetheless.

I tend to disagree.  I think most people are intelligent enough to separate themselves from whatever he got up to in his personal life.  By your logic, no one would ever admit to liking Jerry Lee Lewis, Phil Spector, Chris Brown or any of the scores of musicians who've been accused/found guilty of all sorts of awful things.

He was found innocent  (edited to say sorry i know you cant be found innocent, only guilty, he was aquitted actually ! ) of the charges And i think the jury was right, he was a nutter but i dont think he was a pervert, he was just living the same way as a kid might do and it was inappropriate but i dont believe it was sexual.

and when you see those dance moves and hear that voice from his best days, you cant help thinking, wow, that guy was so, so talented. its hard to reconsile both personas into the same body.

I was watching a top of the pops show on him last night with his videos and how beautiful and shiny he was back in the early 80's..how he moved! even the other half said how handsome he was and that's a rarity... it all seemed so sad watching that "Don't stop til you get enough" video to what he ended up as.Or maybe i'm just mourning the loss of youth in general. :-\\\\

Personally, when someone dies I tend to feel respect for life in itself - the awesomeness and fragility of it all.  I guess I don't have a very healthy relationship with death.   Hearing that it happened to someone else makes me remember that its going to happen to me, and I'm not cool with that at ALL  :).

Watching Tim McVey get executed stayed with me for a LONG time, and he was a unrepentant murderer.  Reckon that's a whole 'nother can of worms  - it's just why I feel how I do about the tragic end of MJs tragic life.

How much must have he hated himself to do the damage that he did to his body.  The mind boggles...

I think some people might be commenting they aren't a fan because people might expect them to make mention of his death and need to explain why they aren't speaking up.  I'm a huge music fan, grew up in the 80s, and I'm sure I listened to Michael Jackson at some point.  But I don't consider myself a fan and so his death hasn't quite struck me the way it's struck others*. I don't feel a need to mention it on my LJ or participate in the forums that have posts about him (well, until now)...but if someone asked me why I wasn't saying anything or participating, my honest answer would be that I'm not a fan.

I think I know maybe 5 songs off the top of my head, and one of them is Bille Jean (which was covered by other bands), one of them is Heal the World (which was my 8th grade promotion song), and the other three are Beat It, Thriller, and Black & White. That's about it.  Hardly makes me a fan in my eyes.

*But I do think it's sad that he died.  I respect him as a musician, regardless of his personal life.  Like any celebrity, I don't really think his personal life was any of our business while he was alive, and it's not now that he's dead.

I think Chary was talking specifically about people who are going out of their way to point out they aren't fans - making a point to repeat it over and over.  There's a big difference between not saying anything because you have nothing to say, and making a huge point of telling people how unaffected you are.

Yeah. I don't think I'd really be making comments unless I was asked outright.  (okay, other than these two posts. but i'll stop now.)
