I miss toasted tea cakes, the cinnamon toast from Betty's in York, Cox's orange pippins and any English apple (I hate the huge often tasteless apples in the US), frozen potato waffles with baked beans, mince pies, Christmas cake, Simnel cake, date or currant slices and a good cuppa.

Huh??

hmm, that was badly phrased, not preparing for the move exactly, but sort of randomly planning, getting rid of stuff, putting some savings away.

We're still a year out :)  Boy has to graduate, and we have to get wedded, then we're off! (just don't tell my work - shh! :) ) x

Thankfully hubby can make proper Yorkshire puddings! We even had the foresight to bring our baking tins with us, so they are the real deal.  ;D
We can get Strongbow cider at the local off-license and a couple of local bars sell Blackthorn. I miss Magner's though. And strangely enough I was a big fan of Waitrose's own brand in the litre bottles.  :P

Chocolate? We're jebbed unless we pay 4x the price at the local Brit-food shop.  :\\\'( :\\\'( :\\\'(

I do! I made it last year for Bonfire Night and mine was awful!

This is the one I did last year, first one I left in oven too long and it was too hard....2nd one worked a treat though.

That might actually be the recipe I used! But I probably did the same as you did and left it in too long. I'll be more careful next time.  :)

Here's hubby's list:
Pukka pies
proper fish and chips from the chippie
crispy pancakes
kebabs
good Cadbury-any kind really
fresh Jaffa cakes, not ones that have been sitting around for ages like we get here
Yorkshire puddings

I miss
garlic mayo from the chippie (and anything else from the chippie for that matter)
real English bacon and a lovely dripping-butter bacon and mushroom cob
Orange slices from Woolworths

We were getting desperate for the English bacon, but have finally sorted that out!  The butcher down the road from us sells smoked pork chops and he hooked us up with some that he sliced really thin. They have a small bone in them, but we just cut that part out and voila! As close to English bacon as we are gonna get without paying a fortune for it online.

The biggest bummer has been the World Market in our area closed early this year and that was our lifeline.  We order a bunch of treats online. Jolly Grub is usually pretty good and have a great selection.

Oh cool! Thanks!! :D I'm definitely going to look for it this weekend. I'm excited now. :P

I've seen a couple of other brands as well. It was at Whole Foods. Pretty good variety actually! I miss Magners Pear Cider. :( And Hula Hoops that someone mentioned. But I found those at WF, too!! Only plain ones, but still. I think I need to go to WF today!!

Oh and Cheesebiscuit, I've been able to get Branston pickle (regular and small cut or whatever it's called) here along with the onions, too?

And I thought of something else- those perfect, just enough for 2 people, frozen quiches from Tesco or Sainsbury's. I can't find normal frozen quiches here that aren't miniature, or too small/big for one. And they're expensive. I think Tesco and Sainsbury both had them for 2 for 3£.

For those of you missing Ale and Cider you might want to check Bevmo

http://www.bevmo.com/Default.aspx

When we go to California we always get some beer for my husband from there. From what i remember I remember us buying Boddingtons, Old speckled hen, and I'm pretty sure they had Magners. It looks like the deliver as well if you don't have one near you.
