Your Secret Indulgence
« on: May 18, 2002, 10:16:55 PM »
So we all know about Yvonne's strange love for white wine and doritos. What are some of your more "unique" little indulgences?

Mine is smoked oysters (the kind you get in the can) on Saltines.

Where do you get smoked oysters in the UK?  I looked all over for them ... used to have my mom put them in my "care packages" because I couldn't find them anywhere.

My indulgence?  Hagen Daz vanilla ice cream, but only on special occasions.  And Tullamore Dew, Irish whiskey -- pure amber nectar.

I get my oysters from Tesco. In the same aisle as canned tuna etc.

My indulgence would have to be peanut butter and mayo sandwiches, I know I'm weird and no I'm not pregnant  ;D.  I also love a bowl of carte dor vanilla ice cream ohhhhhhh so creamy and you can see the little vanilla pieces in it.

Perhaps this is more common in other places, but where my family were considered a bit weird for putting dill pickles on grilled cheese sandwiches.  I can't find decent dill pickels, so I've just done with out. :'(

You can get those pickles from those food sites I've put up earlier.

As to eating oyster - WELL oysters on the half shell (God's true gift o us all) should be had in my humble opinion with NOTHING on them and they should just slide down. Sadly, they aren't cheap - hence the canned smoked babies. They have to be chewed though I usually just inhale  ;D

Ewww.  I can eat the little smoked oysters, but oysters on the half shell is vile.  They DO slide down, like swallowing snot.  Sorry.  But they're gross.  On a par with black pudding.  I mean, really gross.

Never had pickles on grilled cheese before, but it sounds good.  I usually put mustard on mine.  I used to have a friend who liked his grilled cheese sandwiches with peanut butter on them.  I couldn't bring myself to try it, though.

And yes, glasgow_girl, the pickles in the UK definitely fall short of the REAL thing.  Sweet pickles are common and some are quite nice, but there is no such thing as a good dill pickle on that side of the pond.

Oh - here's another one. Next time you're making a tunafish sandwich try putting some creamcheese on your bread before plopping on the old tuna. YUMMY  :)

K - Hovis I wouldn't be jumping all over the place laying claim to that combo but if it's that important to you -
I'M SORRY.

And Tweets - No one was suggesting a combination of oysters and snot. Some uneducated palates were comparing the two.  ;)
