Should we start a Harry Potter thread with the US movie coming out this week.  Any other HP fans in this group?

Do we want to discuss our prediction, opinions/ possible spoilers after seeing the movie?

I think you just did. ;)

I don't know that there's much to discuss about spoilers or predictions. I mean, unless someone at Warner Bros. had a major head injury, it's going to follow the book.

I'm one of those weirdos that didn't read the books and just wait to see the movies. (I just don't have the imagination to create JK's amazing characters in my mind's eye. Pity.  :-\\\\)

But I don't mind spoilers at all! Bring 'em on, I say. Just make sure to change the subject of the thread.

(used the spoiler tag for this....hope I did it right!)
Spoiler: show
There was an interview with Bonnie Wight and she said the whole Harry/Ginny storyline is completely different. They get together, but there isn't a common room kiss or anything like that.  :( Makes me half-mad, because I wanted to see the common room kiss, darnit!

I picked up my tickets for the midnight showing today! My mom and I sort of have a tradition about going to the midnight showing, so I'm seeing it on Wednesday and then again on Friday with Tim.  He told me he didn't mind.  He and I have read all 7 books "together" and have watched all the movies multiple times as Skype dates.  We're complete and utter Potterheads.  (And I'm a Ginny girl.  I love Ginny so much)

Ugh, really becca? That's like, the best part! :(

I'm so excited about the movie. We've been watching some crap lately, so I'm glad that we can finally see something good. ;D First good movie since Star Trek.

I used to make fun of my friend who read the books in high school... Then she made me read them and I loved them.  :-[ And became obsessed. Then DH made fun of me for reading them, so I made HIM read them, and he became obsessed. ;D We're going on Wednesday and hoping we can get tickets!

Anybody know of any midnight shows in London (you know, the ones that are at 12:01 am on Wednesday)?  I used to always go to those in the US but haven't been able to find one here :-(  I have tix for Wednesday night, but it's just not the same.

I think there must be some midnight showings around here somewhere... But I'm sure it would be almost impossible to get tickets. We're quite happy to see it on Wed.!

Check around all the Vue, Odeon, and Cineworld websites!

I don't know. When the movie was originally opening in November, it was during my visit and Tim didn't think we'd have been able to find a midnight showing, since that's not typical UK movie behavior, but I'd imagine since HP is a British film there will be something somewhere...

I told DB months ago that we would see it the day it comes out. I hoped to see it in IMAX, but it doesn't come out in IMAX until the 29th. As much as I want to see it in IMAX, I think I want to see it the day it comes out more.  :(

Hubby and I just saw it ;D

Obviously, a lot was left out. Otherwise the movie would have been 8 hours long. But for what it was, it was fantastic! Best one so far.

We saw it this evening as well.  I am not sure how I feel.  I think there are so many things missing that I don't see how it will be able to resolve itself even in the 2 movies that will make up the last book.

I think there was too much hinting at future plots and so much left out and some of those are my favorite parts.

Right now I am not sure - was it a good version of the book or not?  I agree you have to cut out some stuff - it was almost over 3 hours thanks to tons of previews but I still don't know.

I can't remember which book it was in, but none of the movies have made mention at all about the protection Harry is offered by going to Privet Drive every summer, which is extremely important. I thought the part when Harry took the Felix Felicitus (sp?) was hilarious! I wish they had done more with Dumbledore's death. I just don't feel the movie did it justice at all. I also feel, with H-BP and with OofP, that they just tried to put in too much cute, fun part, but didn't focus enough on building up the story. There are so many important pieces that were never shown. I also didn't understand why the café scene (Harry is really to smart to read The Daily Prophet amongst muggles) and the Burrow burning were unnecessary. Too much of the love stories, which are not necessary and could have been cut out to make more of the main storyline and set up the other books. I just wish they focused less on what Hollywood typically does with films and more on the whole purpose of the book.

I totally agree!  They left out too many of the memories and spent too much time on silly teenage hormones instead.  DH hasn't read the books and left the movie rather confused about how Dumbledore knew everything he did at the end.  (I don't know how to get the spoilers button you guys are using, so am not being very descriptive, but hopefully those who have seen it know what I am talking about.)

Hopefully the next two will be better.  I think splitting the last book into 2 movies is a good idea.

When you do a full reply, not the quick one at the bottom of the page, in the second row of buttons, there is a circle that is alternately yellow and black, that's the spoiler button. Or, if you wanted, you could type out the spoiler script, which is [xspoiler][x/spoiler] without the X's and you just type what you want to say between the words.

I hope the next ones are better, too.

That's what all the reviews are saying as well with regards to your comments about romance vs action. I've already warned my sons about this as they would think the romance bits about the least interesting thing on the planet  ::)
